Theatre or kitchen ❓⬇️ Yesterday, I attended the great musical show “Les Dix Commandements,” and during the grand finale, something extraordinary happened. The final song began, but for about a minute, under the spotlight, no one appeared! This minute felt long enough to realize something wasn’t quite right. Then, it hit me: this was a homage to the original singer, Daniel Levi… And few tears came (yes I am emotional 🥹) Why am I sharing this? Because it’s a powerful reminder of how “spots” can trigger actions and evoke emotions, especially in theater 🎭. It’s all about focusing on those crucial moments to grasp the full scenario. 🌍🌱This experience resonates with me, especially considering our work at SpotLight Earth. Just like in the show, we need to focus on key areas to understand the bigger picture of #CCS and make impactful decisions. Theatre as an art form empowers you to manage complexities real time. When you are on stage to deliver an evening to remember for your audience, it is not the certainities you prepare for but the unknowns that opens up a whole new dimension. Instances where your co actor couldn’t show up on time for the show or the scene - these are scenarios you don’t prepare for every day ! Imagine preparing a demo recording as a back up for your product demo but forgetting to reset your laptop password. Now you have a bigger problem, you are locked out of laptop with no access to the back up and the product ! At Dummies Drama we often look at a three step process to get through complexities 1. Embrace the unknown - brings you to terms with the fact that you are officially in an unknown territory and the show must go on for your audience 2. React before acting - process the current before charting out the future 3. Break the barrier - and this is when you get creative, get unconventional and manage the complexity and this has always been valuable learning for me even at work. #theatrelife #learningsfromtheatre #dummiesdrama

"Stormy Weather" This great creative musical, which premiered on July 21, 1943, showcased an all African-American cast, including Lena Horne, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, and Cab Calloway. The plot is a conventional Hollywood boy meets girl; boy loses girl; boy finds girl affair. In addition, the movie, produced by white studio executives, suffers from some racial stereotyping. After all, it was produced during a time of considerable racial intolerance. The fact the movie was produced at all is remarkable. But the musical numbers are pure joy. You can watch the whole movie at no cost and enjoy such great songs as "Ain't Misbehavin", "I Can't Give You Anything but Love, Baby" and, of course, "Stormy Weather" at the link. As the website 4 Star Films observes, "Stormy Weather takes ... a vast collection of talent from vaudeville and Broadway to Hollywood and lets it shine. Despite its share of flaws, what remains is a phenomenal array of artists, performers, and visionaries. Stormy Weather is an important remembrance and historical document, lest we forget how diverse and rich American culture really is." The Library of Congress selected "Stormy Weather" for preservation in the National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."  Creativity happens every day. There are two content areas that I LOVE—musical theatre and creativity. So imagine my excitement when I discovered a new book by creativity researcher James Kaufman and musical composer Dana P. Rowe, PCC, CPCC, titled Lessons in Creativity from Musical Theatre Characters. Given that it was outside of our regular season, Matthew Worwood and I decided to do a special episode of the Fueling Creativity in Education Podcast with James and Dana to explore the enriching intersections of theater, creativity, and education. We discussed how theater can empower students to play, experiment, and gain insights into diverse cultures and lifestyles. James and Dana also shared their personal experiences and insights from their collaborative work, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for students to express their creativity. As part of the episode, we engaged in an activity from the book where we chose show tunes to represent our current state and where we aspire to be.
