I’m officially 90+ days into my new role at Global Lending. Although the core job functions are similar to the roles I’ve held in the past, I was nervous to learn the ins and outs of the auto finance world. August 2023, I was assigned a market that’s been historically a bottom feeder in terms of engagement and output—and also one of the largest markets in terms of total accounts. When I took over, I decided to pull data from the prior 3-month’s performance so I could set goals, compare, and track growth. Without getting into too much detail, here’s the growth I saw for my three main focused metrics: +26.3% in booked deals +6.5% in market participation +0.5% in application conversion rate While it’s been challenging, it’s been fun. And I’m continuing to learn from experience. Truth be told, I haven’t enjoyed going to work like I have at Global in quite some time. I’m thankful for a company that allows me to be myself with leaders who provide autonomy to go out and get results. Thankful for the ones who took a chance in hiring me and look forward to many more years to come. Let’s keep it moving.

Embracing Change: Letting Go of a Beloved Job. When I started my career in banking in 1998 as a teller, I would have told you I will not have a career in banking. Yet, here I am, 25 years later, with a very successful banking career and a resume full of one-of-a-kind roles and experiences. Everything I know about business, teamwork, finance, relationship building, sales, business plans, comes from a very solid run in the finance industry. It has shaped me into who I am today. I remember when I got my first banking job 12 years ago. In fact, on the day, I received the email informing me of the scheduled interview I was at the camp for a beauty pageant - but really if I hadn't decided on this current career path, I would have been a well-known model by now😅. I had to fly to another city to take the interview and thank God I got the job; the rest is history! Then the real work began, which involved long hours, early mornings and late nights. This was all so I would learn, grow and give my best every time. I would read the bank's credit policy guide and every resource I could, to help me have informed conversations with clients, structure credit facilities tailored to their financing needs and offer topnotch financial advisory services. This helped me build a strong foundation of knowledge and expertise which made my bosses assign me leadership responsibilities early on even if it didn’t come with the title immediately. I accepted every one of these responsibilities, just willing to learn and grow. One of my mantras was to make my boss’s work easier so that gave me the opportunity to tap into their expertise. To me, it was like learning from a coach without having to pay thousands. The experience helped me improve my skills significantly and execute strategic process improvement initiatives. It was when I transited into Treasury that I understood the quantum of value in my banking experience, it helped me with the knowledge and clarity to execute cost saving, capital optimization and process improvement initiatives that saved the company millions of dollars, earning me 2 prestigious awards. I appreciate all my lovely colleagues and team members that have been a profound part of my journey, but most importantly to God for the opportunity to continually make impact towards a more purposeful life.
