Dear Gary, I’ve got to be honest, reading your post, p*ssed me off a little. Sorry 🥶 It’s just I’ve been surrounded by healthcare workers - Nurses, Doctors etc in burnout for the last 4+ years. I know that there is a global issue in how society values healthcare and frontline workers. Many are women and often parents. It’s not getting any better for them. At least not right now. Now, I know that they don’t do it for money - it’s not great. Many a nurse here uses food banks and struggles to heat their homes. They don’t do it for fame … Share a famous nurse apart from Nightingale? So lastly, affirmation? You said “find joy in what you do.” Absolutely- but they need help right now. They need voices of leaders to champion for change. To be respected and valued for the work that they do. Especially carers. They want to be supported and heard. They need to be allowed to “find their joy.” Their joy? Is in helping others. Caring, Supporting, And being able to do the jobs they love. With good staffing, working conditions, education, & emotional support. Just because many of us have “forgotten” the pandemic doesn’t mean they have been able to. That’s a privilege for us and not them. This is a global issue. Canada, America, UK and other countries accross the globe need to prioritise supporting our frontline / first responders. Understanding your purpose and NOT aligning it with what you’re doing is absolutely can cause burnout, but here are some other factors that can cause burnout. ✨not seeing the financial results of your passions. Financial stress can lead to lack of sleep, stress, and push to burnout. ✨lack of sleep. Your mental cognition drops by 30% with one night of poor sleep. ✨no support network. We’re designed to have support. Burnout can happen when you don’t have support or feel comfortable with reaching out for support. ✨outside circumstances. Remember the SWOT analysis? What about the areas in your life that you can’t control? Sick parents or loved ones, divorce, big life transitions. We have to take these into account. ✨ your mental chatter. If you’re in your head with negative thoughts and criticism, this can propel you to burnout. I’ve had burnout. My passion was real, but I had a lot of pressures and didn’t have the confidence or tools to know how to handle them, I hadn’t done the inner work to hold it all. My mental chatter way high, I didn’t reach out to peers, and hid my stress. Burnout impacts a lot of us. When you can practice mindfulness, self love, compassion, and empathy, handling the outside challenges becomes easier. What are your thoughts on burnout?

There is always a moment, when this happens to many a person. It's important to pick it early and "fix" so you are truly growing as a person, employee or employer. #growth #change #development
