🚨 **Fall Prevention Alert** 🚨 Did you know it's actually more common to fall after shoulder surgery or a shoulder injury than it is after knee surgery or a knee injury? 🤔 Here's why: Our upper extremities, especially our arms, play a crucial role in maintaining balance. When you have your arm in a sling or a shoulder I’mmobilizer, it disrupts this balance. On the other hand, when we injure our knee or lower extremity, we're usually more cautious and aware of our steps, and, therefore, less likely to fall, believe it or not. Many don't realize that an arm or shoulder problem can lead to a loss of balance, making falls more likely. So, here's a **warning** to everyone with a shoulder or upper extremity injury: be extra mindful of your balance to avoid falling and potentially injuring something else. I can’t get no satisfaction and believe me I try and I try… muscle sparing, robotics, no tourniquet, same day surgery, no general anesthesia. Dissatisfaction rates for total knee replacements reach close to 20%. I don’t see it that high in my practice which I attribute to my techniques, but most importantly, patient selection and realistic expectations. But as much as you try setting those realistic expectations, patients will continue to show dissatisfaction. Case in point, patient is six months postop from a right knee replacement. Plays pickleball five days a week, and has achieved 140° of flexion. She has no pain with her activities compared to Preop. Unhappy with the knee because it clicks due to the metal and plastic inside. Her exam is 1+ laxity.. Perhaps a supporting case for leaving patella unresurfaced to minimize some of that plastic and metal articulation.
