“I had a body part repossessed because the VA couldn’t facilitate care.” The Independence Fund advocated for Veteran Matt Brown when he waited nearly two years for a proper-fitting prosthetic from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Respondents indicated that their experiences with VA prosthetic care were slower and less responsive than the care provided by the DoD. Matt’s story demonstrates the ongoing struggle so many Veteran amputees suffer through. Even after eventually receiving the proper prosthetic, ongoing treatment proved to be another challenge.
