Learn how your health information is used and shared by your doctor or health insurer. Generally, your health information cannot be used for purposes not directly related to your care without your permission. For example, your doctor cannot give it to your employer, or share it for things like marketing and advertising, without your written authorization. You probably received a notice telling you how your health information may be used on your first visit to a new health care provider or when you got new health insurance, but you can ask for another copy anytime. https://lnkd.in/dT_ZqS9Y

In a recent post, I discussed the two biggest challenges private practices face when it comes to acquiring new patients ⤵ 1. Getting and managing referrals. 2. Leveraging insurance networks. You can find the original post in the comments. Today, I'm narrowing in on the direct care business model, but before we begin, I want to clarify that I view direct care as anything that is cash-pay without insurance. Membership is not a requirement to be direct. Now patient acquisition can be extremely broad, so in an attempt to simplify, I have divided it into three channels. 1. Grassroots campaigning and growth 2. Direct contracting with employers 3. Generalized marketing (e.g. SEO, ads, content) 1. Grassroots is all about storytelling and encouraging people to adopt an alternative message or service based on individual or group experiences. Direct care's main story is how awful the insurance based model is for everyone. Here's the highlights: - Disruption of the doctor-patient relationship - Less clinical time with a doctor due to corporate care metrics - High costs of insurance based models - 24/7 access vs weeks or months of wait time 2. Direct contracting is a way for direct care practices to capture a large group of patients, all at once. There are several different versions of this and we see them all throughout the country. There are even some insurance versions that provide similar services and operate sort of like cash pay. However, this channel generally works like this: - Employer covers membership or cash fees - Easier adoption decision for patients due less OOP requirements - Higher quality of services with better patient satisfaction scoring - Employers like it because it has the potential to decrease overall spend 3. I think we all know how this works, so need to explain it any further. But all 3 of these channels have some serious flaws, and eventually many practices will hit a growth wall. 1. Story gets old and tired. People lose interest and after hearing the same narrative repeated over and over it just doesn't have the same range. 2. There's only so many contracts to go around. Besides, focusing only on those who are employed completely dismisses a HUGE PORTION of the patient population. 3. You need a lot of cash to burn and you need a lot time to wait it out to see if it works. tl;dr: direct care does not have a model problem, it has a funnel problem. After spending the last 4 years building in this space, I believe the biggest opportunity is to disrupt and redirect the patient funnel. And now that we have AI, direct contracting is the best and fastest category to make this happen. #HealthCareOnLinkedIn #DirectCare #AI
