A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including 86 representatives and 38 senators, is fighting for an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would prevent the United States Air Force from transferring space-related National Guard units to the United States Space Force without the consent of governors. "Should Congress strip governors of the ability to manage National Guard units within their states, it would risk fundamentally altering the Guard's mission and identity, as well as set a concerning precedent whose impacts may be broader than anticipated," the letter reads. 🚨🚨When someone tells you an issue is getting more attention than it deserves...you should pay attention🚨🚨 He's right. Governors don't need space assets. They also don't need F-16s, HIMARS launchers, Abrams tanks, Special Forces units, or infantry capabilities. The National Guard's role in American national defense is not domestic operations, it's as America's primary combat ready reserve. This mischaracterization of the National Guard is exactly that, a mischaracterization. The argument made here about space missions could be extended to the vast majority of missions in the National Guard. Legislative Proposal 480 sets a dangerous precedent that Governors shouldn't have authority over their own National Guards. So where does this narrative end? With states not having any part in their own national defense. Let's stop this legislation and get back to empowering our National Guard servicemembers.

The Air Force’s in-depth report to Congress says moving all National Guard space units to the Space Force is the best path forward. But the Air National Guard, governors in all 55 states and territories, and a bipartisan group of 85 lawmakers are pushing back against the Pentagon’s plan. The study that’s been in the works for quite some time examines three possible actions. It lays out the feasibility and advisability of giving the Space Force its own Guard component, leaving things as they currently are, and moving Guard space functions and personnel to the Space Force. The study examines each action's risks, costs, and benefits. 📰 From our ROA SmartBrief. 📖 https://bit.ly/3KiWJbE #SpaceForce #Guard #AirForce #NationalGuard

The Air Force is playing fast and loose with transparency and good faith legislative processes. The Council of Governors (CoG) was set up following 9/11 in order to ensure that Governors were in the loop on discussions surrounding their own defense. LP 480 is the definition of a bill that should have been briefed to CoG, as it clearly seeks to waive Governor consent required in Title 32 Section 104 of the US Code, in order to strip Air National Guard space personnel out of their respective National Guards. Instead of keeping Governors in the loop, the Air Force opted to send LP 480 to the Hill buried at the bottom of a tranche of legislative proposals that was never meant to see the light of day. Their justification? Their own report, that Congress hasn't even seen yet, recommends it. The Air Force is advocating for legislative changes that will undo 120 years of precedent surrounding military structure, and their justification for doing so is an overdue report that hasn't been released. It's no secret that senior military leaders don't believe that the States should have any say in America's national defense. Rather than present their arguments in the open, the Air Force chose political maneuvering over transparency. Typically, not the actions of an organization with the facts on their side...

Experience in Organizational Compliance, Continuous Improvement, Leader and Workforce Development, and Military Public Health
Defense Health Agency Health of the Force estimates 27% of Fort Liberty Active-Duty soldiers are tobacco users (at least one product in last 30 days, 2023). Fort Liberty NC surveys indicate a higher percentage of use and polyusers (more than one product). Our partnership has done tremendous work in this area but I would love to hear what other Military installations in the United States Department of Defense are up to. What is the dynamic between your MTF, Public Health Nursing and Armed Forces Wellness Center? How could we do better? Our population faces such challenges with the military dynamic that it becomes more important to fill the gaps and ask the questions locally. https://ycq2.org

A bipartisan group of Senators are trying again to assure the capabilities and experience of our nation's Space Guardsmen are properly aligned with their service partner the Space Force. Let's hope they can get the rest of the Senate to add it to the NDAA as the House has for several years now. The below post includes c0v!d vacc!n3. Is that used to hide a reference to COVID vaccine from LinkedIn filters?
Last week, the House Armed Services moved forward its $880b defense policy bill for FY 25. Here’s a few takeaways: 💰 4.5% raise for all service members 💰 E-1s through E-4s would receive an additional 15% 💰 Basic Allowance for Housing increased from 95% of housing costs to 100% 😷 Nancy Mace (R-SC) presented a measure to push the United States Department of Defense to rehire the 8,000+ servicemembers who were released for refusal to take the c0v!d vacc!n3. (A bit confused how this would work in practice, how this would not simply add to the whiplash inducing impacts of the policy changes, how we would maintain good order and discipline, what officers she consulted in this decision, or how we would reintegrate a fiercely jaded population back into the service, but I digress.) ✈️ The United States Air Force planned to quit buying 15s after FY25, but this plan seems to be scrapped. ✈️ Of the 68 35s requested by DOD, only 58 made it into the package. The monies from the 10 not purchased (about a billion) would be reallocated to expand the 35s testing capacity. Delivery of 35s is significantly behind schedule, due to delays in finishing TR-3 (software and hardware improvements). ✈️ 56 warthogs would be cut, which makes sense, as they’ve been discontinued for use since our withdrawal from Afghanistan. 🚤 extra $1 billion for the USN to restore funding for a second Virginia-class submarine. 💡 there’s some other fun stuff, like governors reserving the right to approve transfer of guard units to the air force, a proposal to add a UAS corps to the army, and the move allowing Frank Calvelli to sanction and black list underperforming contractors, but I’m running out of characters. 📸: from the archives: 2020, when a mask mandate came down, despite the fact I wasn’t seeing clients in person. Those N95 masks clashed with my outfit, so I figured if I was going to struggle breathing through a Carolina summer, I was going to struggle fashionably. #stupidgamesstupidprizes #defense #military

Mission readiness significantly impacts operational forces by ensuring they are prepared and capable of fulfilling their roles within the National Defense Strategy. It involves continuous investment in training, equipment, and personnel to maintain high levels of readiness. This readiness is crucial for both domestic and overseas operations, highlighting the importance of reforms and modernization in duty statuses, programs, and healthcare for part-time service members.
Gen. Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, told lawmakers in his annual testimony to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense that the National Guard is a dynamic operational force integral to the National Defense Strategy. He emphasized that sustained mission readiness requires continued and deeper investment in the Guard. He stressed the need to reform Guard and reserve duty statuses, modernize the federal military technician program, revisit the cap on Active Guard Reserve positions, and overhaul the health care program available to Reserve component service members serving on part-time orders — about 80% of the National Guard.

In addition to the Space Force issues, there are some interesting legal and State's rights questions in the legislative proposal.
On Monday, governors representing 53 states and territories added their voices to growing opposition to an Air Force legislative proposal to incorporate parts of the Air National Guard into the Space Force. https://lnkd.in/eaEz7vrX
