Eidesvik, Agalas join forces for methanol-powered subsea vessel Eidesvik Offshore and Norwegian shipowner Agalas have jointly ordered a new construction support vessel (CSV) for subsea and offshore wind operations. The vessel, named Eidesvik Agalas, will run with methanol engines and a battery hybrid system and will be majority owned (50.1%) by Eidesvik. Plus, the joint venture has options for a further four vessels. Alongside the battery hybrid system, dual-fuel generating sets will be capable of operating on either methanol or MGO. The vessel will be built at the Sefine Shipyard in Turkey with delivery in early 2026. It will be able to perform IMR work and will go straight to a three- to five-year charter with Reach Subsea, with Eidesvik providing full management of the vessel, including crewing. According to the co-venturers, demand for vessels in the subsea sector is about to outstrip supply, with continued growth in offshore wind this decade. The new vessel will be 99.9 m long with a breadth of 21 m and capable of accommodating 100 people. Chevron and SEA-LNG member TotalEnergies, along with the shipowner and operator Seapeak have joined the Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMII), a growing initiative designed to combat methane slip in shipping which now has more than 20 members.   According to Bunkerspot, MAMII has announced that it has ‘selected four providers to produce feasibility studies on the technologies which will reduce methane emissions from ships, and that further details will be released soon’.   Key initiatives such as MAMII and GREEN RAY have begun addressing concerns around methane slip through onboard operational measurements of emissions for multiple vessel and engine types. These projects are now looking at methodologies and pilots that support the reduction and ultimately the elimination of methane slip through the development of new engine technologies and exhaust stack abatement solutions. (Article below from Energywatch in Danish) 🤐 ... if so we are not surprised... 😏 Rumors are that the winners of the Danish Onshore Storage licenses have received their official 'offer letters'. Meanwhile the rest of the CCS community are awaiting the official announcement which is expected any day! The large O&G companies are definitely the favorites in the field given their vast experience with exploration, strong safety records (which is extremely important in a new industry, developing in your backyard), deep pockets - and the so-called takeback obligation. What we hope to see at CCUS Partners is real action, and a push to execute the exploration programs safely and fast, to develop a new onshore storage industry in Denmark.
