THIS … authencity to core, Dove has always been the pioneer when we talk about Diversity, Equity and inclusion that drives their creativity and campaigns. I had the pleasure to really connect with the Dove team last couple of months at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and MAD//FEST - They shared a great insight into their journey since 2004, when they launched their Real Beauty campaign they have seen a direct impact in growth. They have TRIPPLED their growth to be exact. They are actively drawing on truths that society no longer wants to conform to. It’s time for an active change in advertising . Creative work shouldnt just be creative it needs to have real insights and a real message/ Not just a message for one , two or three campaigns, however a real force for genuine authentic change. This mean diversifying our workforce , this means to proactively investing in DEI. Some insights from Doves campaign - Only 2% of women believe they’re beautiful - this truth, this insight was used to inspire their True beauty campaign. Their strategic frame work - Strategic Clarity, People and Mindset , Creative Ambition. Dove is one of Unilever's three biggest brands, selling more than €5bn worth of products every year. And you can't think about Dove without thinking about the campaign for Real Beauty. This year celebrating its 20th anniversary, Real Beauty has become a social movement worth $7.3bn. The best Fathers Day tribute said everything by saying nothing. You don't usually associate Father's Day content with luxury brands, the usual tropes around the day 'thank you Dad' etc... would fall flat in the context of the vast majority of luxury houses. (Montblanc, for what it's worth, is a brand who could elevate those tropes.) But what luxury brands are good at is using their category to reframe context. Which is exactly what the A$AP Rocky and Bottega Veneta Fathers Day spot delivers. An intimate, almost wordless portrait of A$AP playing with his small young kids, wonderfully lensed by the artisit Carrie Mae Weems. The product is (quietly) there, gorgeously rendered in both video and stills, but is a background player to a larger moment. Sure, the moments seen might be very everyday, but that's what makes it even more distinctive and compelling. When we talk about luxury brands 'in culture' this is a fantastic example of what that looks like when applied to brand codes. Bravo to the entire team.

Directing this project for FutureDeluxe was one of the highlights of my time there. Good creative direction creates a structure that provides guidance but also makes room for exploration and discovery. It's balance that hinges on trust. The creative team at Bang & Olufsen exemplified this. They came to us with 3 values that encapsulated their collaboration with Ferrari. Poise, Power and Precision They had an idea of a 3 act structure that would speak to each of these values in turn. Drawing parallels between the aesthetic and felt senses that both brands evoke through their products. Within that structure they invited us to experiment as much as we wanted. This kind of trust is key to a great collaboration. In this case we had built trust through the shared experience of working together on previous projects. Trust is hard to gain and easy to lose. It can be built through making people feel seen and heard. Putting in work to understand not only their desired outcome for the project, but their underlying values and world view. How do you build trust in your creative partnerships?

I am unusually back on this page in a short time frame to make a point about something that is not my personal opinion, but a simple, technical definition. Fashion overseas literally runs Economy and it’s structured around the social tissue providing work for millions of people. Each Country has its own “National Fashion Chamber”, yes sounds like the Deputy Chamber and, somehow, it’s very similar. It’s a No Profit Institution and part of it are Entrepreneurs, Economists, Marketing Experts, Technical specialists in the fields of the Product, Fashion representatives as Factories owners and more. Fashion Chamber roles are multiple. Definition of the yearly Fashion Weeks, the Graduation Weeks, the Special Events and it’s a point of reference for the entire microcosm rotating around it. All the level categories Brands, Start ups, Individual Fashion Designers starting their careers, Academies and Schools, Public and Private. Fashion is an essential “Business Card” for a Country, perfectly defining its aspects so it must be perfect. The common interests are all contained in making this sophisticated “mechanism” work. National Fashion Chambers are real Communities of minds linked together from the same goal to achieve, promoting the Country and assuring stability to all the workers. Fashion Chambers are the safe place protecting, honouring and nurturing past, contemporary and future resources. Creating and maintaining solid the columns of the Culture because Fashion IS Culture, not a temporary entertainment. A Fashion Chamber literally can’t be owned by one private. A Fashion Week has no sense if not contextualised in a larger environment, it’s just a little piece of a big puzzle. It’s like a Maserati without fuel, can’t go anywhere. A Community can’t be owned. The evolution of any industry, product, or business can't be forced. It requires a deep, meaningful, and organic transformation. Evolving is a long and somewhat spiritual journey that can be painful because it means losing a piece of yourself that no longer serves the purpose. The Art of Carving Cameos in TorredelGreco has been an important economic resource for generations of families devoted to this ancient craftsmanship tradition. However, as with all family-owned businesses, the industry found itself stuck in old aesthetics, lack of creativity, and detached from the ever-evolving taste for luxury products. When I moved to NYC in my early 20s, I was tired of hearing the typical comment, "Oh, Cameos? My grandma had one too!" I pledged to never hear that comment again by rethinking, reimagining, and revolutionizing the art of Cameos, which I sincerely loved and worshipped since my early teenage years. It became a mantra and an obsession, and at times I thought I wasn’t capable to do what I set out to do; I came close to giving up; but I didn’t, thanks to the support of my talented partner Roberto Faraone Mennella and his always inspiring esthetics…..until I realized that among our clients were Spike Lee, Rihanna, Magic Johnson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Elton John, and many others whose grandmothers probably never had a Cameo.
