By now, most Shopify Plus merchants know that they need to upgrade their checkout before August. Many merchants see it as a boring compliance exercise, but if you invest energy into understanding the new checkout, there are some ways to help boost your stores AOV. Shopify had a partner webinar yesterday and covered the benefits to Checkout Extensibility: 1️⃣ You can now customize Shopify checkout with apps, so no coding experience required 2️⃣ Faster checkout experience will deliver a higher conversion rate 3️⃣ More customizations are allowed via custom functions (apps) or through the checkout APIs 4️⃣ Thank you and Order Status pages are now covered by Checkout Extensibility giving you control over more of the funnel A lot to like here, I think #4 might be the most slept-on for merchants. Crafting your thank you, order status and purchase confirmation pages can really help to increase purchases (upsells) and drive a higher AOV for your store.

Shopify continues to release stellar updates that not only make merchants happy, but also us developers. There was quite a lot to unpack with this edition, like the welcomed checkout extensibility updates, the big emphasis on B2B and the very much requested variant limit raise. One area that did catch my eye though, was how native continues to become more powerful with each release, and to the point where you really only need to consider headless if your business has very specific needs. Theme blocks saw some crucial updates with this release to further enhance the customiser for merchants: – Theme blocks now support nesting, up to 8 levels deep! This gives us developers more flexibility to allow merchants to further customise sections. – Theme blocks now allow us to define a block once and then reuse it across sections to eliminate redundant work and coding to make them more consistent.
