Almost 250 years ago, this nation was founded under the revolutionary idea that all are created equal. The Constitution that followed this Declaration of Independence offered us the invitation to bring this idea to life under the mantle of “We, the People.” But, the promise of a nation for all remains unfulfilled because the democracy designed was only intended to serve some. It is now the work of our generation to take up the promise of “We, the People,” and re-found a country that truly serves all. It is precisely at this moment, when democracy is being challenged from all sides, and the limitations of our nearly 250 years of governing are coming to a breaking point that we must fulfill this mandate. This can only happen if we do the generational work of building a truly multiracial democracy––one that has not yet existed but is ours to create. Today is a great day to revisit Dr. Michael McAfee's piece – We Must Be Founders – in Stanford Social Innovation Review. https://lnkd.in/gmxpmyw5

🌍✨ Imagine a true multiracial democracy where the power of the people reigns supreme, transcending the influence of those in positions of authority. At Movement Strategy Center, we firmly believe in the transformative strength inherent within communities to shape our collective destiny. In "Imagine What a True Multiracial Democracy Looks Like," Dr. Michael McAfee paints a vivid picture of this visionary future for the United States. The Founding Fathers penned "We, the People," but diverse families and communities across our nation have propelled us toward the true essence of democracy. From PolicyLink, Dr. McAfee issues a compelling call to action for profound self-renewal at the individual and institutional levels. He challenges us to envision and re-establish the United States as a thriving multiracial democracy: "We must assert our right to shape a better country, on our terms. We have the opportunity to pioneer a nation where everyone is equally protected, where our economy serves people and the planet, not just profit, and where we've addressed the injustices of the past to forge a path towards a new future." What if our new democracy embraced deep respect for our ancestors and indigenous wisdom? What if we operated from a worldview rooted in sacredness, care, cooperation, and regeneration? Let's unite and work towards building that future together! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gbSznENz #MultiracialDemocracy #PowerToThePeople

🇺🇸 A Strong Nation: The Power of a Perfect System! 🌟 Hey everyone! 📣 Let's take a moment to appreciate the strength and resilience of a nation that doesn't rely solely on great leaders, but rather on a flawless system. The United States is a perfect example of this! In America, we have witnessed the smooth functioning of a small government and a vibrant society. Our society thrives on the free market and the operation of private enterprises. Even during government shutdowns, our economy and social fabric remain largely unaffected. This is the power of a system that doesn't overly rely on any one individual. Our country embraces the beauty of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. With the peaceful transfer of power from one political party to another and the seamless transition of government, our nation's policies continue to progress. The United States keeps running like a well-oiled machine! A truly great nation doesn't solely depend on the prowess of extraordinary individuals. It is a country that fosters a market-driven economy, respects personal freedoms, and upholds democratic values. This is a nation that stands tall without the need for constant heroics from its leaders. Let's celebrate the strength of a nation that has built an impeccable system, a nation that thrives on the collective efforts of its people. 🙌🏼🇺🇸 #PowerOfAStrongNation #FlawlessSystem #CollectiveEfforts #USA

A good analysis. American democracy is cracking. These forces help explain why. Behind the sense that the political system is broken lies a collision between forces both old and new https://lnkd.in/gTBhXbs9

I've now spent over 20 years in the USA, a land of immense opportunity, diversity, and resilience. Throughout these years, I've witnessed many changes, seen the nation face numerous challenges, and celebrated countless triumphs. Yet, I have never perceived our nation as divided as it seems today. The division is palpable. There are primarily two dominant parties, and it feels like a tug-of-war where 50% of the populace is constantly pointing fingers at the other half, blaming them for every societal hiccup or issue. The justice system, a cornerstone of any democratic society, appears to be weaponized for political gains, eroding its foundational integrity. Institutions, which are meant to be the bedrock of our society, seem to be losing respect and trust among the citizens. But as despairing as this may sound, I remain hopeful. I ponder: how can we rise above this vitriol and animosity? How can we put an end to the name-calling, the baseless allegations, and the unbridled hatred that's become so commonplace? One solution I propose is diversifying our political landscape. We are a nation of over 330 million people, and our perspectives, ideologies, and solutions cannot be neatly packaged into two categories. Perhaps it's time we break free from this binary political dichotomy. More than two parties could pave the way for nuanced debates, better representation, and collaborative solutions. I dream of a U.S. where every voice is genuinely heard and where democracy doesn't just mean casting a vote, but engaging in constructive dialogues, building bridges, and cherishing our shared humanity. Let's commit to respecting one another, listening even when we disagree, and cherishing the democratic values that have long been the cornerstone of this great nation.

Sharing some independent thoughts here on this eve of the Fourth of July: While America is far from perfect, the ideals of democracy/republicanism are guiding principles toward a more perfect union. Embracing our nation’s history and learning from it to do better are imperative. So, while Americans will acknowledge tomorrow as the Fourth of July—the day of Independence, there will also be far too many using their vote to return to the type of rule that America sought to shake itself from. So please consider what you are voting for, especially as you partake in tomorrow's recognition of our independence.

This is exactly what is wrong with American politics and the caricatures that seek to serve in higher office. American politics particularly our debates aren't a reflection of candidates preparedness to serve the American public when they get into office, it's only what they're are prepared to continue to do as we're witnessing in our nation's capital. Substantive foreign and domestic policies, fiscal accountability and responsibility, balancing our budgets, curbing inflation, addressing the issues of an economy that is crushing average Americans as myself on a daily issue, tackling our nation's debt in a responsible manner without severely penalizing middle-class America, are the bread and butter issues that we're interested in.These debates lack substance and continue to draw the laughter from our nation's allies and the rest of the world. What we've morphed into is not who we were called to be. Questions surround our ability to lead internationally especially now since we've dwindled our capital as a fixture on the preservation of democracy. We call out autocratic regimes and their leaders but we continue to seek to impose draconian measures on minorities in particular, with state legislatures enacting jerrymandered voting blocs only to insert their hold on the powered majority. We have a lot to repair if we are to be taken as serious contenders towards the preservation of democracy and our credibility especially on the domestic front. This debate wasn't a sideshow, it was a Circus. Smh!

The Capitol Riot, Racism and the Future of American Democracy - https://lnkd.in/gxzF5Pfc The Capitol Riot in Washington D.C. was a coup attempt intending to upend American democracy. Although the attempted coup was ultimately unsuccessful, it remains a matter of ongoing concern. The socioeconomic and political factors that lead to the coup, namely the ever-broadening gap between the rich and poor in America, along racial lines, massive unemployment leftover from a worldwide pandemic, and social unrest and discord, still exist. History has shown when these factors are present—democracies fail. This Article examines the current, precarious state of American democracy, starting with unsettling comparisons to 1930’s Germany and concluding with an examination of famed historian Juan Linz’s Litmus test for a healthy democracy. Alarmingly, America is failing this test. If American democracy is to continue, real change must happen. If not, the Capitol riots were not the culmination of angst and frustration, but merely the beginning.
