The Neue Klasse marks BMW's ambitious shift to electric and digital mobility, featuring a dedicated 800-volt electrical architecture. The sixth generation of BMW eDrive, debuting in Neue Klasse models, promises a lighter, more compact, and over 40% cost-effective system with up to 25% lower energy consumption. This groundbreaking technology, underpinning six models, reflects BMW's largest-ever investment and will include an SUV and sedan in the core midsize segment, with the iX3 SUV planned for late 2025. 🛎 BMW's Neue Klasse not only marks a pivotal shift towards electric mobility but also heralds a significant investment in the brand's history. The lineup includes a 3 Series-sized sedan (2026), a coupe-styled iX4, a compact SUV to replace the iX1, and more. To streamline the transition, BMW is considering a new nomenclature, where electric sedans would be designated i320 or i330, distinguishing them from their combustion engine counterparts as the 320 and 330. BMW M5 gets its first plug — and gains a lot of weight BMW’s 2025 BMW M5, which is coming as a plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV) for the first time, will be a husky vehicle. BMW strikes the perfect tone as it discusses a future electric M3. You lose an engine's soundtrack, but there gains beyond just acceleration on the other side. Terrific piece from Angus MacKenzie here. "It will beat everything you have ever seen," says BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel with a smile. "We feel like Alice in Wonderland." Sounds like the car is reportedly to debut in 2026 or 2027, based on the sedan previewed by the pictured Neue Klasse concept. BMW chief engineer Frank Weber hinted previously future M cars will have as much as one megawatt of power. That's insane. “With a quad-motor concept, we are now looking at a system that can control the chassis as well as the drivetrain with one central logic," van Meel added. In other words, BMW sees no reason not to continue making Ultimate Driving Machines. BMW has announced that production of the XM, their super SUV, will end in 2028. Despite initial plans for an all-electric successor, these have now been shelved. The XM, which features a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor, was launched as a high-performance hybrid with 738 horsepower in its top model. However, the vehicle's high price and divisive design may have contributed to its early discontinuation. As BMW aims for 50% EV sales by 2030, the decision marks a significant shift in its strategy. A BMW spokesperson clarified, "There are currently no plans to reintroduce the BMW 6 Series to the market for model year 2026, despite what is being widely reported.
