Celebrating Independence through Every Voice! This Independence Day at PlayStreet, Bengaluru, we embarked on a journey of love, hope, and inclusion. Our skit, a tribute to the freedom fighters who shaped our nation—Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Charan Das, and a British officer—was brought to life by our incredible children and dedicated therapists. But this wasn't just any skit. Our stars were non-verbal children who, through the magic of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices and the loving guidance of our therapists, played their parts beautifully. The voices you heard were pre-recorded by our therapists, but the spirit and determination belonged entirely to the children. Two of our young villagers had a heartfelt conversation, showing how the bravery of our freedom fighters has gifted us a country where every voice—no matter how it speaks—can be heard. Their participation is a powerful reminder that independence is not just about freedom from the past but also about embracing every individual, regardless of their abilities, in the fabric of our nation's future. This skit wasn't just a performance; it was a celebration of the indomitable spirit within each child, a testament to what can be achieved when we break barriers and believe in possibilities. #IndependenceDay #IndependenceForAll #InclusiveIndia #EveryVoiceCounts #BreakingBarriers #HeartfeltFreedom #AAC #playstreet #bengaluru #specialschool #therapies

Senior Program Associate at WRI India | Strategy and Impact | Urban Resilience | Children Friendly Cities
Play is far more than just recreation; it's a fundamental catalyst for development, growth, and building resilience in young children. By providing young children with ample play opportunities, we equip them to better cope with and solve life's complex challenges. With the growing impacts of #ClimateChange - rising temperatures, urban flooding, and pollution - ensuring safe, accessible, and green network of #PlaySpaces in cities is crucial for young children's healthy development and well-being. 🌳⛲ Play can truly make our urban spaces better for everyone. 🏙️💚 On this first #InternationalDayOfPlay, let's celebrate the transformative power of play and its role in nurturing #resilientcommunities. The #NurturingNeighbourhoodsChallenge is helping cities in creating inclusive play spaces that foster connections and enrich lives. Read the post below to learn more about how play can connect and improve our cities. #ChildrensRights #PlayMatters #SustainableCities #ChildhoodUnplugged
Today marks the first 'International Day of Play' being celebrated around the world as part of the long-standing efforts taken by various organizations globally to promote, protect and empower every child’s right to play. The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to formally create this annual day to call attention to the need to ensure every child’s right to play is respected, protected, and fulfilled, so they thrive and reach their potential. The #NurturingNeighbourhoodsChallenge has supported and encouraged ten cities in India to pilot and scale young children and caregiver-friendly public spaces at the neighbourhood level. These efforts support children’s growth and potential, leading to better health outcomes and life-long benefits. Play is a critical component of a child's growth journey. Going beyond recreation, play helps foster resilience, creativity, and innovation in children. If you design a city that works for children, the city works for all! Here are some ways in which play can make cities better for all.
