Agricultural ecosystems now span more than 40% of the Earth’s land surface, making them the largest terrestrial biome. 🌍 A staggering 83% of this land is devoted to animal agriculture, contributing to deforestation, habitat loss, and climate change. 🐄 By choosing a plant-based diet, we can dramatically reduce our environmental impact, conserve precious resources, and create a more sustainable future for all. 🥦 Learn more in our “Safe and Just” report at VeganDonutEconomics.org 🌍🌱

As Climate Week 2024 comes to a close, we’re inspired by the conversations, connections, and commitments made toward a more sustainable and resilient future. 🌍 This week reaffirmed that true climate action starts from the ground up—literally—with farmers leading the way. Through the Forest Garden Approach, farmers are restoring degraded lands, creating green jobs, and building climate-resilient communities. From transparent carbon credits to green entrepreneurship to food systems and agroforestry, the future of climate solutions is in the hands of local leaders. We look ahead to continuing our mission: partnering with farmers to scale solutions that deliver lasting impact for people and the planet. We must continue to push forward these solutions to create a sustainable and equitable future for all. Together, we can and must keep driving change—one farmer, one tree, one solution at a time. #UNGA78 #ClimateWeekNYC #FarmerLeadership #ForestGardenApproach #NatureBasedSolutions #Agroforestry #GreenJobs #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GlobalImpact

Our approach goes beyond traditional methods, focusing on restoring and enhancing our farm ecosystems. 🌱 Here's why we're passionate about it: 1️⃣ High-Quality, Nutrient-Dense Food: Regenerative farming enriches the soil, leading to crops packed with essential nutrients and robust flavors. 2️⃣ Resilience to Extreme Weather: By building healthier soil, our farm becomes more resilient to droughts, floods, and other weather extremes, ensuring a more reliable harvest year after year. 3️⃣ Increased Water Retention & Quality: Through practices like conservation tillage and cover cropping, we're improving water retention in the soil and enhancing water quality for our crops and local ecosystems. 4️⃣ Carbon Sequestration: Our farm acts as a carbon sink, capturing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in the soil, helping combat climate change. In the heart of the Midwest, we're committed to leaving the land better than we found it. 🌾

Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay and this year's theme is #GenerationRegeneration, which calls for a focus on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience to protect our planet and revive ecosystems around the world. Regenerative Agriculture is one of the 10 key action areas in our updated Climate Transition Action Plan for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. It helps us to deliver positive impacts on soil health, farm biodiversity, and the resilience of agricultural systems, revitalizing land while storing carbon and helping us to adapt to climate change impacts. To help us realise our ambition, we're working with farmers, suppliers and other partners to implement regenerative agriculture on 1 million hectares of land by 2030. Currently, we have 46 projects in collaboration with our suppliers, covering 270,000 hectares of land transitioning to regenerative systems around the world. 🌍 Happy World Environment Day! 🌿 As a Climate Change Specialist and Agribusiness Thought Leader, I wish to remind us today of the critical importance of our land in ensuring a sustainable future. This year’s theme, “Our land. Our future.”, underscores the urgency of land restoration, combating desertification, and enhancing drought resilience. 📌 Our land is not just the foundation of agriculture; it’s the bedrock of our communities, economies, and ecosystems. We can contribute to this crucial mission by: 📍 Promoting sustainable farming practices: Implement crop rotation, conservation tillage, and organic farming to maintain soil health and reduce erosion. 📍 Restoring degraded lands: Invest in reforestation, agroforestry, and soil rehabilitation projects to revive ecosystems and enhance biodiversity. 📍 Enhancing water management: Develop efficient irrigation systems and rainwater harvesting techniques to improve water use efficiency and build resilience against droughts. 📍 Support policy and education: Advocate for policies that encourage sustainable land management and educate farmers and communities about best practices. 📍 Innovate and invest: Foster innovation in agritech to develop solutions that increase productivity while preserving the environment. 📌 By prioritizing these actions, we can transform degraded lands into fertile grounds that support livelihoods, protect biodiversity, and contribute to climate resilience. Our land is our future, and it is our responsibility to steward it wisely. 📍 On this World Environment Day, let’s commit to taking bold steps towards restoring our lands and securing a sustainable future for generations to come. 🌱 hashtag #WorldEnvironmentDay #Sustainability #Agribusiness #ClimateAction #LandRestoration #Desertification #DroughtResilience #Climatechange #OurLandOurFuture #Softlifefarmer #Thoughtleader

Climatic action, my priority Ladies and gentlemen, community leaders, and fellow citizens of Kigezi, Over the past decade, our beloved region has faced the harsh realities of climate change. Rising temperatures, unpredictable seasons, and extreme weather events have become the new norm. We've witnessed devastating landslides, droughts, and floods, which have ravaged our homes, farms, and infrastructure. The effects are evidently seen as : Changing seasons: Our traditional planting and harvesting seasons are no longer reliable. Farmers struggle to adapt, leading to crop failures and food insecurity. Landslides: Heavy rainfall and deforestation have caused numerous landslides, resulting in loss of life, property, and displacement. this happened also happened this year in January 2024. Water scarcity: Droughts have become more frequent, affecting our water sources, livestock, and daily needs. As a concerned citizen, I've been working to mobilize community participation to address these challenges. Here are some initiatives we've undertaken: Awareness campaigns: We've organized workshops, rallies, and community meetings to educate people about climate change, its impacts, and the need for collective action. Sustainable farming practices: We've promoted agroforestry, terracing, and conservation agriculture to reduce soil erosion, improve soil fertility, and enhance resilience. Tree planting: We've launched tree-planting initiatives to restore degraded forests, prevent landslides, and mitigate climate change. Water harvesting and conservation: We've implemented rainwater harvesting systems and promoted efficient water use to reduce scarcity. Together, we can make a difference. Let's continue to raise awareness, adopt sustainable practices, and support each other in the face of climate change. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to protect our beautiful Kigezi region. #climatechanges #keepourenvironmentgreen #lifeoverland #lifeoverwater #cleanwater #nopoverty

We inspire and continue to drive Nature based farming systems that offer a ray of hope in the fight against climate change and provide beautiful results for Mother Earth. By sequestering atmospheric CO2 through optimized soil health, these systems create resilient agroecosystems capable of both mitigating climate change and ensuring sustainable food production. As we continue to reverse climate change one small initiative at a time, it is crucial to recognize the importance of nature based farming systems and support their widespread implementation for a greener, more sustainable future.
