Our efforts have been focused on three key areas: 💼 Employment and Skills 🧒 Children and Young People 🏥 Health and Social Care Last week, we spotlighted Skills and Employment with an insightful blog on the crucial role of Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) in employment support. This was followed by practical suggestions for local governments on driving change at the community level. This week, we focused on our commitment to Children and Young People. We kicked things off with a blog about “invisible children” and how we can integrate them into support systems. Following that, we provided suggestions for improving the life chances of children with SEND. Next week, we will shift our focus to Health and Social Care. How can social protection end child labour? Children belong in classrooms, not workplaces. Yet millions around the world are forced to work because of poverty. That is why social protection programmes are crucial. They offer families crucial support to break this cycle. But how? 🚀 By offering economic support 🩺 Ensuring access to healthcare 👩🏾🏫 Encouraging education Social protection is about investing in children's futures. Strengthening the systems that guarantee this safety net must be a priority, especially in challenging times.

It is the state’s pride and privilege to guarantee a standard of living which roughly covers the bottom two tiers of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to all citizens. The goal is to eliminate a citizen’s concern for basic survival, allowing them to attain higher education; care for citizens who ‘fall on hard times’; eliminate the scourge of mental illness which comes from insecurity (while acknowledging that some mental illness is not the sole product of insecurity); and as citizens will no longer be in a position where they either take exploitative work or starve, allowing them to negotiate better salaries and working conditions.

The 2024 Australian Youth Barometer was released yesterday. Similar to previous years, the Barometer found that young Australians are feeling anxious and unstable across a number of dimensions that affect their lives, including the economy, employment, education, health and wellbeing, relationships, belonging and exclusion. More than 1 in 5 young people rate their mental health as poor or very poor. Other key findings include:   - 98% of young Australians report having at least one feeling of anxiety or pessimism in the past 12 months. - 86% of young Australians experienced financial difficulties in the last year. - 62% think they’ll be financially worse off than their parents. - Just under 1 in 3 young people believe that it’s likely they’ll be able to afford a comfortable place to live in the next year.   This echoes observations we have heard from our own Youth Advisory Group about their feelings of financial stress and lack of hope for the future. Early findings from our own National Youth Survey results due for release later this year tell a similar story. It is not inevitable that sentiments expressed by children and young people now, lead to mental health distress or progression to mental illness in later life. Indeed the evidence is clear that good mental health promotion at the population level to increase protective factors and reduce risk factors works. BUT it does require us to change our approach to how we are responding to the current mental health crisis in young people. How can the government solve social problems

Talking about a brighter social care future This was the core topic at the Time to Act Reform Group meeting this week, where senior formal leaders of social care come together with people who draw on social care. The secretariat is via Think Local Act Personal (TLAP) with facilitation via Kate Jopling The TTA group has prioritised a small number of key issues to both support the social care sector and engage government to help. Shifting the story of social care is one of these. A number of TTA members are leading work in this area, building on 5 years of research and guidance development from Social Care Future. ADASS, LGA, TLAP and SCIE are undertaking work which will result in new guidance, tools, materials and training for those wanting to use a different story to change social care & gain investment in it. We are also hoping to develop “framing” that would allow us all to get our different messages across but in a way that uses what has been learnt about how to shift people’s thinking. This is a country where your value doesn't matter in some places. why? because some territories are ruled by authority and nepotism not justice. Millions of youth are out there facing unspeakable things to make ends meet but having no lucrative jobs after many years of suffering in their various institution. Meanwhile, some of our leaders claim they are unemployed because they are not equipped enough in their field of specialization or many not creative enough and knowing fully that most of these leaders get into power through political dispensation or nominations. Infact, most of these old ass can't do one-third of what many youth can do but trapping the privilege to make them being productive. It's high time, we woke up from our long slumber, youth!!. Government helping us is average of 25% while the rest 75% is on our own part and that's undoubted. We have got to strive to survive by ourselves. Put the cross over our necks.
