It's been fascinating to learn about the different requirements of different types of live-streaming platforms! For example, YouTube, Twitch, and live sports build in a latency of up to 21 seconds and that's completely acceptable for its use. "This enables them to use a larger buffer, heavier compression and more effective transcoding techniques than they otherwise could." However, for services like Zoom and FaceTime where people are speaking to each other, even 1 second delay is too much (can confirm🥲).
