#IndieGameLove AAA’s are like summer blockbusters. Super polished, latest/proprietary engines, licensed characters, huge advert budgets…. We all agree they rock. But let’s give some love to the #IndieStudios and #SoloDevs. The art house films of the gaming world. Some of the best games I’ve played come from small teams working strictly from passion. What are some small/indie games that blew you away and influence you to this day? Very abbreviated list to start the conversation: Puppet Combo - any and all games they produce. The absolutely nail schlocky ‘80s VCR trope. Such fun What Remains of Edith Finch - I still think of this game daily. Basically a walking sim but the writing, dialog, and changing systems make this a haunting masterpiece. Thank Goodness You’re Here - A charming look at a fictional little England town. The writing is masterful. Still Wakes the Deep - What seems like a run of the mill first person horror is elevated to masterpiece through superb voice acting. What are some of your fav small/indies and games that have inspired you?

⚔ Rise of The Ronin recently released so we've compared its critical reception with various titles in the same genre. Interesting insights on the video game industry from Bret Robbins, Founder of Ascendant Studios. In a recent article, he shares his thoughts on the performance of "The Immortals of Aveum" and the lessons learned when a game doesn't succeed out of the gate. It sounds like there wasn't any pent up demand for the game and competition from several higher profile IPs launched in 2023. My game prototype on the theme of the zombie apocalypse. The environment, 4 types of zombies (attacks, clothes, step system) were voiced. The main character also has a step system with a surface check, a breathing system that depends on the character's fatigue. A weapon system is also used, in which the number of rounds in the magazine is intuitively read. An interactive music system has been implemented - when the main character is attacked by zombies, the music becomes harder. https://lnkd.in/eedeFXhq
