I'm working on another corporate volunteering project and could use your insights. There's often an assumption that done-in-a-day corporate volunteering is a win-win-win: good for the corporation and its employees, the nonprofit/govt host, and the community served. Those of us working in this space know that is not true. Nonprofit, government, and CSR colleagues: • what are some of the things that go wrong with these projects? • what are actions you have taken to help them go right? For example: • educating a group or exec that wants to interact with participants in a way that would be harmful; • saying 'no' or 'not yet' if the group/project is not a good fit; • re-directing groups to participate in a longer-term, higher-impact need; • sharing ways to get involved beyond the day of service; etc. Feel free to send me a message if you'd like to share your experience privately.
