Head of Civil-Military Cooperation and Military Advisor to the Director General EUROCONTROL, Generalmajor
In a significant meeting at DFS in Langen, CEO Arndt Schoenemann and Major General Stoye convened to discuss the future of aviation safety and innovation of future airspace usage. This collaboration underscores the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing our airspace's security and efficiency. The leadership and vision of figures like Mr. Schoenemann are pivotal in navigating the complex landscape of air traffic management. It's through such dedicated efforts that we can look forward to a safer and more reliable air travel experience. #DFS #aviation #EUROCONTROL #CMC

On July 23, 1983, Air Canada's Flight 143, with 69 people onboard, ran out of fuel at an altitude of 41,000 ft. The pilot managed to glide the plane down safely. The jet had been loaded with 22,300 pounds of jet fuel instead of the required 22,300 kg. #midwestatc #aviation #aviationlovers #aviationgeek #aviationdaily #airplanelovers #aviationhistory #history

INDUSTRY STATEMENT! The Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA) and the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations (IFATCA) have come together to issue this critical joint statement addressing the misuse of the International Aeronautical Emergency Frequency 121.5 MHz. This frequency, reserved exclusively for emergency communications, is vital to ensuring swift responses to distress situations. The inappropriate use of this frequency may pose a serious risk to flight safety, delaying critical assistance to those in need. We urge all aviation stakeholders to carefully consider the importance of safeguarding this frequency and to take immediate steps to ensure it is used strictly for its intended purposes. Korean Air announced that it has renewed its cabin service procedure in light of rising cases of extreme turbulence on commercial flights. Since July 1, 2024, the South Korean flag carrier has wrapped up its in-flight services 40 minutes prior to landing on all medium to long-haul flights, 20 minutes earlier than the previous service policy. Korean Air believes that the 20-minute change will allow in-flight services to end before the airplane begins its descent to land, thereby minimizing the risk of turbulence to passengers and crew members. At the end of April, the New Trends in Civil Aviation 2024 (NTCA) conference was held in Prague ✈️. This was already the 24th year of a series of conferences organised by the Department of Air Transport of Fakulta dopravní ČVUT v Praze 🎓. The objective of these conferences is to provide a platform where members of communities interested in air transport operations and applications are able to interact. The conferences are designed for both specialists from practice and academics and serve as a forum for exchange of opinions and experience regarding technology, methodology, applications, and case studies as well as real cases in both civil and military aviation. NTCA originally used to focus on the Central European region, especially the Czech Republic and Slovakia, only but has gradually attracted the attention of other countries around the world. Czech Airlines Technics was the silver partner of the conference with Aneta Komárková, Ondřej Trčka, Hubert Pikl, and Lubos Pirek present on behalf of the company. #CSAT #pragueairport #aircraftmaintenance #maintenance #aviation

Today marks 97 years since a remarkable achievement in aviation history. On 20 May, at 7:40 AM local time, Charles Lindbergh embarked on the first-ever solo non-stop transatlantic flight! ✈️🌍 Charles had prepared for this feat well in advance. Just a day before, he conducted a trial eight-hour flight from San Diego to Saint Louis. The following day, he took off in the Spirit of St. Louis, a plane funded by sponsors, from the now-defunct Roosevelt Airfield in Garden City (Long Island, New York). His journey to Paris took an impressive 33.5 hours. For his achievement, he was awarded the Legion of Honour by French President Gaston Doumergue and was received at Buckingham Palace by King George V of Great Britain. In the USA, President Calvin Coolidge honoured Lindbergh with the Distinguished Flying Cross and appointed him a colonel in the Air Force. 🏅👑 Today, solo flights in piston aircraft over such long distances remain a remarkable achievement and the fulfilment of many people's dreams. However, as many as 2,000-3,000 jets cross "the pond" daily. The Atlantic Ocean is divided into six zones known as Oceanic Control Areas (OCA) and the management of oceanic traffic is almost a separate industry. The rise of stallite navigation and modern ways of tracking the position of aircraft as well as communicating between pilots and Air Traffic Control (CPDLC - Controller Pilot Data Link Communications and ADS - Automatic Dependent Surveillance) make it much easier today, but the need to safely separate such huge amounts of traffic with no radar or VHF-radio coverage, and the fact that aicraft fly so far away from any airport, still make the Atlantic Ocean a very special place for aviation. 🌍✈️ #CharlesLindbergh #AviationHistory #SpiritOfStLouis #TransatlanticFlight #ShanwickOCA #AviationLegends

A good detailed article from FlightGlobal about the Airlander project from Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd and Tom Grundy. Well worth a read if you want a good precie of where they are at. The comments about “fishing in the same pond” for Advanced Air Mobility funding is a pertinent one. When I attended the Future Aviation Forum in Riyadh in May it was a strong theme. When you look beyond that, anything we can do to protect our planet is a good thing. Looking at a product that can reduce C02 emission by 90% it has to be worth pursuing. Some the characteristics of Airlander will need those of us in the aviation/aerospace sector recalibrate our traditional thinking to truly see the benefits of this to a number of sectors. The analogy I use is “imagine trying to explain a helicopter to a person who only knows what a fixed wing aircraft is!” These are the kind of products and thinking that will give us that paradigm shift we need to make a difference. #rethinktheskies
Airlander rethinks the future of sustainable and accessible connectivity. At HAV we continuously work to innovate the future of flight through Airlander. Recently our CEO, Tom Grundy, spoke to Murdo Morrison from FlightGlobal to discuss our latest advancements and more. Tom provided insights into: - Airlander’s Type Certification journey - Our growing book of aircraft reservation agreements - The future plans for hybrid-electric and all-electric versions of Airlander - The potential of Airlander in diverse markets, from military and cargo, to tourism and regional travel Read the full article to discover more about our journey: https://lnkd.in/ea8T3Rdg #RethinkTheSkies #Airlander10 #SustainableAviation #Innovation #FutureOfFlight

✈️Flight Ops Info✈️🚨 The European Commission and #EASA are closely monitoring the situation in the #MiddleEast following increased tensions between #Israel and #Hezbollah. They recommend avoiding the airspace of #Lebanon and Israel at all flight levels. This recommendation is in effect until #October31, 2024, subject to review depending on risk developments. EASA will continue to assess the situation to adjust #safety guidelines accordingly. https://lnkd.in/eVzjwrfW

When I think about the extraordinary leaps in technology and international cooperation that was required to get Concorde airborne in such a relatively short time… it gives me hope that maybe we can develop the technology to begin to decarbonise the air transport industry in the next decade #hope #greattransition
