🌍 Action Needed for Our Environment and Communities! 🚫 Vote No on I-2117! The WA State Climate Commitment Act (CCA) was created by the Washington State Legislature in 2021 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while protecting our communities and the environment. However, I-2117 threatens to undo that progress. Here are the impacts for Washington if I-2117 passes: • Increased Health Risks: More toxic air pollution • Reduced Environmental Protections: Key protections for our waterways and fish habitats will be endagnered. • Funding Cuts: A staggering one-third cut to our transportation • Cuts to Ferry System: Our already strained ferry service will be further disrupted • Increased Wildfire Vulnerability: Nearly $30 million in wildfire prevention funding cuts • Harm to Tribal Communities: Significant loss of funding for Tribal environmental initiatives • Public Service Reductions: Essential programs for air quality, health, and safety will face severe budget cuts. Let's protect our environment, health, and communities! Vote NO on I-2117! ✊✨ #No2117 Paid for by Southwest Washington Equity Coalition, P.O. Box 2823, Vancouver, WA 98668

How can Canada’s municipalities tackle the triple challenge of developing low-carbon buildings for a growing population without straining their fiscal resources? District heating systems may serve as a valuable tool. A new report by @Myha Truong-Regan, our Head of Climate Research, examines the role district heating systems can play in lowering building emissions—which account for 13% of Canada’s total emissions. Plus, five smart ways municipalities can speed up their adoption.

The Maine Turnpike Authority released information this week on the proposed Gorham Connector, a new 5-mile highway toll road connecting Gorham to Portland. The Bicycle Coalition of Maine does not support the project because we do not believe it will relieve traffic congestion in the long-run, it will increase vehicle miles traveled, and it goes against Maine’s climate action goals. A project of this size and cost must carefully consider the impact it will have to the greater Portland community over the decades to come. In the coming months the MTA will be hosting forums and soliciting public feedback. Follow us on social media and sign-up for our emails on our website to be kept informed as these meetings come up. [I'd like to end with a question to drive/guide discussion--some ideas] How would you spend $200+million? Should we build more roads? Invest in public transit and active transportation? What is the best solution to reduce traffic, while improving safety and lowering pollution?

🚨 Community Input Needed 🚨 Last summer, the EPA awarded a planning grant from the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) Program to the State of New Mexico Environment Department to support the State in creating two climate action plans (a priority plan and a comprehensive plan) for implementing effective greenhouse gas reduction strategies while ensuring the benefits of these actions are delivered to New Mexicans, especially Low Income or Disadvantaged Communities. As these plans are being developed, we want to help make sure that they are reflective of our values, culture, and priorities. That is why we’re asking you to take our survey by February 10th CPRG funding for New Mexico can help our communities with things like training and workforce development opportunities, clean energy development and energy efficiency, clean transit, and much more. 🌱 Proposition 4: $10B for California’s Climate Future This article outlines the general parameters of California’s Proposition 4 really clearly. https://lnkd.in/gZVXAWhw Prop 4 would authorize $10 billion to tackle urgent environmental issues such as water scarcity, wildfire prevention, extreme heat, and renewable energy. If passed, it would fund projects like clean drinking water, forest resilience, coastal restoration, and climate-smart agriculture. There is even funding to support outdoor recreation and public access to California’s State Parks system! 🥾 🌳 While environmental advocates argue this funding is essential to meet ambitious climate goals, critics express concern over state debt. This pivotal decision will determine how California addresses growing climate challenges. If you live in CA, check out this article and continue to gather information so you can be informed in advance of the Nov 5 election! 🌎 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #California #Prop4 #getoutdoors #fundtheoutdoors #diversifyoutdoors #CAkidsinnature
