What’s an important personality trait of surrogates? You guessed it: being patient. (Don’t worry, if patience doesn’t come naturally to you, you can still be a surrogate, just know beforehand you’ll be required to practice it throughout your journey). The surrogacy process is a lengthy one. You have to be cleared by your OB/Midwife ➡️ get a psych evaluation ➡️ go through matching ➡️ get cleared by their IVF clinic ➡️ do a med screening ➡️ and go through legal clearance before even arranging the embryo transfer. A recent amendment of surrogacy rules that will allow couples to use donor eggs or sperm for giving birth is expected to boost its market potential, according to industry insiders. The Centre on 21st Feb amended the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021, effecting a change that comes after years of debate and advocacy and likely to benefit couples struggling with infertility. Previously, the law mandated that both gametes (egg and sperm) used in surrogacy had to be from the intending parents. However, this placed hurdles for couples with medical concerns such as premature ovarian failure or male infertility.
