Being a physician mom is tough. This article shares a powerful message and articulates struggles/feelings I have always experienced in my career. This is also why one of my biggest accomplishments has been being able to educate and empower women across the country via Johnson and Johnson. Women leave emergency medicine on average 12 years sooner than their male counterparts. https://lnkd.in/gwrEban7 As I read this article, a few thoughts came to mind. "Of course women leave early! How can we balance it all?" The authors of the article cite such things as gender bias, caregiving responsibilities of aging parents and young children, societal expectations, burnout. I agree that many of these factors can be relevant. But then I thought, why aren't we proactively addressing the loss of all of these amazing female colleagues? What would it take for these women to stay? In short, what would a "win" look like for them? Are you a female emergency physician? What does a win look like for you?
