Hello Architects and Interior Designers, Do you know why selling yourself is foremost compared to exhibiting your portfolios? As architects and interior designers, we understand the power of aesthetics and the eloquence of a well-curated portfolio. However, the most stunning designs and innovative solutions often take a backseat to one critical factor: personal connection. What has worked for me in the past: ✅ Engaging with clients by asking questions and genuinely listening to their needs ✅ Sharing my journey, values, and what drives my passion ✅ Showing empathy, builds a strong foundation of trust I have observed other senior designers who close high-ticket clients having these qualities: 👉 Communicate efficiently and lay out clear rights and wrongs before the client for them to prioritize. 👉Making themselves accessible and responsive to queries. 👉A big one - follow ups. Sending personalized follow ups after meetings or a simple thank you emails or phone calls. Which of these qualities do you practice regularly, and which ones do you often overlook?

Achieving good model-making skills in interior design involves mastering craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to translate concepts into physical representations. Practice precision, experiment with various materials, and focus on conveying spatial relationships accurately. Developing a keen understanding of scale and proportion is crucial, as it enhances the realism of your models. This is a project created by first-year Bachelor of Interior Architecture students in my Model Making class, aren’t they remarkably stunning ? If I didn't mention their year of study, you might easily mistake their work for that of final-year students, don't you think?

Hi, I'm Mann R Jain, the founder of Shaping Spaces by Aakar. Certainly! In my journey as an interior designer, I've noticed a shift in focus from purely creative ideas to the use of references. While university education encouraged originality and creativity, real-world design often relies heavily on references. This reliance on references can sometimes restrict our creativity and lead to designs that prioritize aesthetics over a thoughtful design process. This begs the question: does the practice of referencing hinder our ability to develop innovative and effective design solutions?

John Maeda's quote really resonated with me as an interior designer, showcasing the dual facets of my profession. Design intrigues me because it's centred around problem-solving, while art stirs my curiosity, urging me to delve deeper. This quote perfectly encapsulates my approach to work. I strive to marry practicality with creativity in my designs, addressing immediate concerns while also evoking emotions and thoughts about the space. Maeda's concept serves as a reminder that design and art, despite their apparent disparities, are intricately linked. Design confronts real-world challenges, while art encourages contemplation of life's complexities. When combined, they form a captivating fusion of creativity that fuels innovation and enriches our experiences. By acknowledging the distinct contributions of each, we gain a deeper understanding of how creativity not only facilitates problem-solving but also fosters profound reflection.

So true! As an Interior designer I believe, AI can enhance interior design by automating technical tasks like error-free drawings and managing dangerous onsite construction. However, design creativity and client interaction should remain in the hands of designers, as these aspects require the personal touch and intuition that only humans can provide. This balance allows for efficiency while preserving the artistic essence of the profession.
