TL;DR - With fewer applicants for pharmacy degree programs and residencies, growing the next generation of future chief pharmacy officers (CPOs) is crucial. Future CPOs must excel in business skills and change management to adapt to increasing demand for virtual and at-home healthcare services. Four health system pharmacy chiefs shared their insights: Future chief pharmacy officers (CPOs) must excel in business skills, change management, and strategic planning to adapt to evolving healthcare trends such as virtual and at-home services. They should build infusion centers to stay ahead of market demands, delegate and ensure team accountability, integrate with IT for optimal tool usage, and promote pharmacists' full skill sets for effective practices and billing.
