Building interprofessional teams with ease | Bridging science to practice | Team development strategies | Patient Advocate | Let's build high performing teams together!
In an interprofessional team environment, it is important to understand your role. A suggestion here could be for the recorder to provide an update on time, medication and dosage, but also asking the recorder to speak up if they see deviations from acceptable use. The recorder can have 2 roles if they are aware and understand the purpose. Do you have any additional thoughts?
Yesterday's post celebrating National Interprofessional Healthcare Month highlighted a positive outcome from an emergency situation. Today, I want to shine a light on a more challenging dynamic. This illustration comes from "LIFE & DEATH: An Illustrated Case Study." It depicts a situation that many of my #IPE colleagues and others throughout the health professions have experienced. This interprofessional emergency medicine team, over an hour into life support to resuscitate a patient experiencing the cardiac effects of a medication overdose, agrees to cease their efforts with the input and support of the patient's spouse. Within the health professions, we frequently utilize life support as a teaching tool for interprofessional teamwork. I wonder how much we overlook the emotional impact such situations have on health professionals as we - rightly so to ensure competence - emphasize technical aspects associated with ACLS. Dr. Wilson at DR. NAIR INTERNAL MEDICINE, PLLC / Wound Care highlights the importance of in-home wound care education for seniors at Humana Neighborhood Place and JenCare Primary Care. Understanding the holistic approach to wound care is crucial. Effective care involves considering various factors such as medical conditions, diet, age, medications, mobility, and family support. Healing and well-being require a comprehensive plan tailored to each individual's needs. Home health professionals play a key role, ensuring precise care through specific dressings, medications, and detailed wound care protocols. #WoundCare #HealthcareEducation

Today is a good Monday. We have 18 open spots out of 24 for patients to be seen today. As we continue to improve I wanted to share our latest progress here as we work to improve how we provide primary care to our patients. For those of you who have been following along our team has made a significant and concerted effort to improve our access and the experience of care for our patients. We currently serve over 2000 patients and families in our practice and over the last 6 week cycle we have made a concerted effort to make our office more easy to access, a calmer workplace for our employees and a place where we effectively team together. What did we do? - install a doorbell for patient check ins to limit interruptions for our secretary - work as a team to triage all patient concerns rather than delegate this to a single team member - emphasize that prebooked appointments are for care that can only be received in person (well baby visits, chronic disease, antenatal visits) - work to optimize all visits before they are seen in clinic: this means lab work or imaging done before we see patients in some cases to ensure we can optimize our time in person - instill the principle of acknowledging receipt of requests vs feeling pressure to complete them the moment they are received - emphasizing to our team that their time and health is critical to our success and that being calm is more important than having an inbox at zero. - we have opened nearly every day to be fully accessible by online booking and patients are able to book as it works for them. Do I anticipate some hiccups into the future - it's likely. Are we now in a better mental space to work through them and develop solutions to problems - absolutely. #primarycare #calmcare #slowproductivity OntarioMD Ontario Health | Santé Ontario Catherine Faulds Kimberly Moran Middlesex London Ontario Health Team A shout out to some of the leaders who have helped me see the way through this too: Jason Fried David Heinemeier Hansson Cal Newport

The pressure to not let your team down. The fear of appearing weak. Bad information from friends or the internet. Thinking that it's "not that serious." These are just some of the reasons why over half of people who experience a concussion don't get it checked out. We can reverse this trend—and that starts with all of us working together to understand concussion symptoms and encouraging our friends and family to get our melons checked if things don't feel right. In our latest blog, we chat with Christopher Chao, MD, the current president of the College of Urgent Care Medicine and Urgent Care doctor with WakeMed Health & Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dr. Chao outlines why it's so important for urgent care clinicians and staff to take concussions seriously, and how they can get their patients to do the same: https://bit.ly/43z6TOh

#HealthyAging is a movement giving rise to health fairs put on by seniors' centres. An example is shown below. Across Ontario, there would be several of these exhibitions each week serving the Healthy Aging Movement. Dental care has yet to connect with these health fairs. Most seniors consider dental care as an expensive service only to be used when in pain. But no longer. A #Prevora booth makes perfect sense for seniors' health fairs. This new preventive treatment can be demonstrated at the fair, and has the right features for seniors -- it is painless, quick and affordable, and available from a local independent hygienist (who promotes her/his practice by manning the booth). An aging community obviously wants different, more suitable healthcare services. Prevora is rated by seniors as "very important" and "very beneficial for general health."

𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 The objective of this audit was to assess whether access to public oral health services, including early intervention and prevention, was efficient and effective. This audit assessed whether Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST) had arrangements in place that efficiently and effectively facilitated access to public oral health services. The focus on access was broader than waiting for treatment, it also included community education on good oral health and access to preventative care. This audit reviewed arrangements in place to facilitate access to oral health services and examined trends in oral health data since 2013-14. Whilst OHST cooperated with the private sector in providing dental care for some clients, the audit did not assess access to private dental services, nor did it test clinical decision-making. https://lnkd.in/gMMY_9nu

May 1 is National Physicians' Day! 🩺 A message from the Registrar to Manitoba physicians: First, I would like to thank each of you for the tremendous impact you have on the health and well-being of our communities. Over the past few years, we have seen a steady increase in physician workloads and pressures. Stress, burnout, and depression have emerged as significant challenges that demand our attention. Your health and ability to practice safely are essential and it concerns me to see these issues impact those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. Despite these challenges, you continue to practice compassionately because that is the essence of being a physician. However, we cannot overlook the well-being of the medical profession. Addressing these challenges requires a collaborative effort shared with other stakeholders. One of the most pressing needs of the medical profession is support for our own health and well-being and resources to help alleviate the workload. Your health is essential not only for your own sake but also for the patients who rely on your care...
