What if we valued difference more? Listened more to different opinions and different people? Back in April our Non-Executive Director, Mo Kanjilal spoke at TEDxBrighton with a powerful talk on ‘How can we value the power in our differences?’ As well as being on our Board, Mo is Co-Creator of Watch This Sp_ce, an award-winning diversity & inclusion company. Her talk speaks from both her professional and personal experience, is honest, heartfelt and invites us to ask questions and to consider that if we were open to other perspectives that we might just find we're not all that different from each other after all. This thinking is key to how we work at Here (Care Unbound Ltd) and helps shape not only how we work together as an organisation but in ensuring the services we provide are shaped by the different people using them and what truly matters most to them. Today I came prepared to Learn and I came prepared to Reflect from this amazing panel and understood so much about neurodiversity: 1. Misuse of neurodiversity There is a natural variation that needs to be acknowledged. Let’s recognise minds of all kinds and brains of all kinds. 2. Misconceptions of neurodiversity It’s an amazing opportunity to unpack about myself which is something to be celebrated. Not to be sorry of the diagnosis. #DiversityandInclusionSummit

At Fortrea, we're committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. We kicked off Pride celebrations with a powerful discussion on intersectionality within the LGBTQIA+ community. Hosted by our PRIDE, PULSE, and WEN Global Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), the forum explored the often-uncomfortable topic of what it means to be both Black and LGBTQIA+. By having open and honest conversations about these experiences, we aim to: • Build understanding: We believe fostering empathy across identities strengthens our community. • Create a safer platform: When we discuss challenging topics, we can create a more inclusive space for all. • Develop strong allyship: True allyship requires understanding the unique experiences of others. We're grateful to our guest speaker, Paige J. Gardner, PhD, Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Success, College of Education at Seattle University, along with the employees who shared their lived experiences. April is Celebrate Diversity Month and Edelstein’s IDEA Council will be recognizing this through weekly trivia questions. The answer to last week's question was, B) Providing fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all individuals, while striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups. This week's question is, What does the term "belonging" signify in the context of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)? A) Fostering an environment where individuals feel accepted and valued for their unique identities and contributions, promoting a sense of community and acceptance. B) Ensuring that all individuals are treated equally and have access to the same resources and opportunities, regardless of their background or identity. C) Creating spaces where marginalized groups are given preferential treatment to compensate for historical injustices and disparities. D) Promoting the representation of diverse perspectives and identities within decision-making processes and organizational structures. Which response are you going with? Equity and inclusion is always front of my mind in my daily life, no more so than during Pride month. But what can you do when Pride Month is over? Turns out, there is a lot and you don't have to wait another 11 months to focus on #Pride and #Inclusion ☺️ As an ally, I've looked at how all of us can take meaningful actions to create an inclusive environment (anywhere, not just the workplace): 📖 Educate yourself on LGBTQI+ issues. 🗣️ Speak up against discrimination. ♥️ Use inclusive language. 🏳️🌈 Support LGBTQI+ initiatives. 📣 Be visible and vocal in your support. 👂 Listen and offer support. 🛡️ Promote a safe and inclusive workplace At Dimply, we recently reflected on our internal policies and introduced enhanced Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy, Social Value Policy, and "The One Dimply Way." Something that I have learned through being a part of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Core team, is the importance of taking accountability and responsibility to educate myself. Learning in bite size chunks is a great way of doing this, and following the Diversity calendar of events is a good way to prompt that learning. Etex follows a communications content plan to prompt and suggest topics, we encourage teammates to share stories about their experienced through our "Teammate stories" that can inspire others too. June has been Pride month, and you might wonder why June? Where did this originate? How did it get sarted? What does this month draw attention to? I found interesting resources which I will share. An amazing event with some truly extraordinary people ❤️ It was awesome to share our message of inclusion with everyone at the CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) Inclusion Summit, and their response was EVERYTHING. People laughed, people cried, people cheered— The engagement from everyone was truly special. At the end of the talk, I received a double standing ovation... LIKE WHAT?!? That moment will forever be humbling! But, I want to briefly glimpse what we discussed because it is so important to build an inclusive company that thrives. Do something. Pay attention to your people, ask questions, listen for feedback, come up with new ideas, and most importantly, make the choice to *do something*. We've forgiven ourselves of the expectation that it will be perfect on Day 1. But we take pride in knowing that we're trying. So we'll iterate, and make Day 2 even better. We live by the motto, "It's okay that an idea didn't work out because at least you tried." And it's necessary for people to feel comfortable getting a little uncomfortable. That's how you grow. So remember, next time you fail, be proud of yourself because you tried!
