FORREST GUMP SAID IT BEST … “STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES”. The Nathan’s Marketing people banning Joey Chestnut from its annual July 4th hot dog eating contest because Joey signed a secondary sponsorship deal with the much less known Impossible Foods is one of the biggest marketing blunders I’ve ever seen in my 45 years in Brand Marketing. I certainly understand non-compete clauses in contracts, but Impossible Foods’ hot dogs are NOT direct competitors of Nathan’s all-beef hot dogs because Impossible’s plant-based “dogs” are simply an optional vegetarian alternative to real meat – not a substitute. Meanwhile, who will give a shit about the forthcoming Nathan’s contest without Joey Chestnut in it? The #1 and undisputed 16x heavyweight world champion of hot dog eaters. A very stupid marketing move by Nathan’s brand management and a very smart move by Impossible. 😎

I've been talking about the a bunch the last few days and it's such a bad example by Nathan's. You need to protect your champions and stand by them. They did the opposite and it feels like it's gonna bite them in a big way
