It is baffling that women’s health is so centered around maternal health (obviously a crucial stage in a woman’s life) when a much larger part of women’s lifespan is normally centered on perimenopause and menopause. Women should have information and support throughout their lifespan for all their health needs. https://lnkd.in/ewJMJHwp

NHS Trustee; Campaigner; Charity Trustee; Former CEO; Past President and Board member Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce,
Sigh…. Sometimes I question how far we have really moved forward as women. This approach to the menopause is gaslighting women. As a (slightly older than some) woman, it has been revolutionary and encouraging that talking about menopause is no longer taboo and that younger women are benefitting from more open, informed discussion about symptoms and their management, particularly in the workplace. The suggestion this week by NICE that Cognitive Behaviour Therapy should be prescribed by GPs is ill-informed and insulting. While CBT may form part of a suite of treatments to help women cope with the vast array of symptoms, it will in no way deal with the root clause, which is hormonal and not psychological. Another example of underfunding of research, underfunding of treatment and where cost trumps health benefits. Sigh…… https://lnkd.in/e3gexZbq

Women's health research is gaining momentum in the US, recognizing that women are not 'little men'. Dr. Sue Mann, Clinical Director of Women's Health for the NHS, emphasizes the importance of this shift in healthcare delivery systems. Did you know that 1 in 100 women get POI or more formally known as Premature Ovarian Insufficiency . (Yes, great name - note sarcasm in my voice! 😝) POI is classified as 'when a woman's ovaries stop working normally before she is 40' however this can happen much, much younger. As a result said woman or person with womb goes in to the menopause early & subsequently it can affect fertility. There is no treatment for this other than HRT but as you can imagine the impacts of going through menopause at 17 for example are vast. The lack of oestrogen causes a number of ongoing health concerns from heart disease & Osteoporosis to fatigue, muscle development & good mental wellbeing. I dare to even think about how someone would actually then manage this as a teenager, amongst their peers discussing periods or puberty & at an age full of vulnerability. Addressing such topics is crucial for education at any age. It's essential to understand that medical assumptions based on male bodies do not represent the entire human experience. I can assure you that is not true. As I continue to research, to reach out to others, to share knowledge & to create imagery that celebrates the skin we are in & aims to diversify conversations; I'd love to hear from you if you too believe that we can create something great together. Through open dialogue, lived experience and my lens, I would be honoured to hear from you if you too are suffering from POI, early menopause or an ageing health journey that offers you an alternative stance on things. Join me in creating meaningful conversations and promoting diversity in health journeys. Take part below or by dropping me a message. ❤️ https://buff.ly/3MvT1wg

Wellbeing Consultant working with Senior Executives to manage stress and anxiety and ease the symptoms of menopause. Helping high performers in Sport, Arts and Business thrive in performance and improve sleep.
The cost to the UK economy of neglecting women's health in the workplace has reached £20.2bn annually, according to the latest AXA Health report. The research highlights some of the progress being made in this area - 43% of women, largely over 55 years old, have seen improvements in the support for women's health at work. However, the report also highlights the issues being faced, particularly by women in their mid 50s onwards. These women are often towards the peak of their career but are the age group who are most likely to be affected by consequences of ill health, including menopause. I am seeing increasing demand in my work to support women suffering with the symptoms of menopause which can adversely affect their wellbeing, satisfaction and productivity at work. Sophrology is helping women feel more confident, less anxious and more rested throughout the stages of menopause so they can manage the challenges of both work and home lives. #axa #menopausesupport #workplacewellbeing #sophrology

Menopause is an inevitable life stage for half the world’s population, but experiences vary hugely. Some women have few or no symptoms over the menopause transition while others have severe symptoms that impair their quality of life and may be persistent. Many women feel unsupported as they transition menopause. To better prepare and support women, the Lancet Series on menopause argues for an approach that goes beyond specific treatments to empower women with high-quality information, tools to support decision making, empathic clinical care, and workplace adjustments as needed. Targeted support is needed for groups who experience early menopause or treatment-induced menopause, and for those at increased risk of mental health problems. The authors recognize how gendered ageism may contribute to negative experiences of menopause and call for reduced stigma and greater recognition of the value and contribution of older women. It has been so validating to read this independent journalists analysis' of our care services being the best. (She liked our care so much, she interviewed our CEO for the article, too!) Impact of menopause symptoms on productivity and work performance: 50% of menopausal women report difficulties at work related to their symptoms, and 10% are considering leaving their job because of these difficulties. Hot flashes can generate a feeling of discomfort and loss of control, affecting women’s concentration, self-confidence and performance. Sleep disorders can lead to chronic fatigue, concentration difficulties, decreased productivity and more frequent sick leave. The “menopause brain fog” is manifested by memory and concentration disorders that can affect women’s self-confidence and self-esteem. Emotional changes and mood swings can impact professional relationships, leadership and women’s credibility. It is crucial that companies take into account the issues of menopause at work by raising awareness, offering arrangements and creating an inclusive and caring culture towards menopausal women.

Great share Joanna Strober The gaslighting, lack of empathy to listen and learn about treatment for #perimenopause, and the damage done by mistreatment with #antidepressants are just a few of the reasons that companies like Midi Health and Maven Clinic, amongst others, are so necessary for women to live healthier and fuller lives. This is why TOWER exists: to accelerate investment in women’s health and address environmental problems that stand in the way of #generationalhealth. At the same time medical schools and societies need to act NOW to address the institutional sexism in medicine as it is taught and too often practiced today. This is a major environmental problem that requires more than entrepreneurship in the market. Sanskriti Thakur Vani Rao, CFA Jessica J. CEO/ Founder of Midi Health, revolutionizing healthcare for women at midlife - to relieve their symptoms and support their wellbeing.
Women should not feel like they’re going crazy, or somehow this is all in their head. It’s time that we stop gaslighting and acknowledge what is really going on … Hormones and depression are closely linked. Many women are presenting to their healthcare practitioner and saying, ‘I have low mood, I have crying spells, sometimes I get angry,’ and rather than talking to them about perimenopause and understanding other symptoms that they are having, too often women are prescribed an antidepressant as a first line treatment and that is not a first line treatment for hormonal change associated with perimenopause or menopause.”

Scientific wellness, precision nutrition, hormone health and menopause thought-leader. Nutrition supplement development & science transation. CEO, Co-Founder PhenomX Health
📣 It takes courage to speak up. ⬆ Speaking up is the first step to creating change. 💰 We haven't funded enough scientific wellness, nutrition and medical research to actively treat menopause with the amazing knowledge and tools we have available to us. 🏥 We haven't adequately trained our clinicians in how to identify and treat menopause symptoms. ⚠ We have inaccurately depicted menopausal women in the media as old, sad women; victims of their biology. As a result, women do not wish to embrace this transformational, rejuvenating opportunity to fine tune their health. ⌛ Because it means they are old. 💡 The menopause transformation is the longevity wellness opportunity for women. It's time. Speak up. Create awareness. Make change.
