The foundation of APA is focused on promoting sustainable and recyclable flexible polyamide packaging. Sustainable, because this type of packaging is the thinnest, mechanically the best-in-class solution on the market, offering superior waste reduction and food protection benefits. It is recyclable, as evidenced by the vast (or long-term) experience of leading food packaging manufacturers and the recognized recyclability certifications granted to these advanced packaging solutions. Nicola emphasized that APA invites the entire packaging value chain (film producers/converters, machinery manufacturers, retailers and brand owners) to join this non-profit organization and its noble mission.    As the key message of the event is "together we are stronger ", APA's goal is to create and communicate science-based facts about polyamide-based packaging that improves packaging sustainability while preventing food waste.   Stay tuned for the launch of APA, where innovation meets sustainability. These are associated with additional losses related to energy, water, labour, and other resources employed by the food industry. The water–energy–food nexus explains the need for their joint optimisation. The valorisation of FWL is the second most crucial strategy after avoiding its formation. It can be directed to various chemicals, fuels, and materials through different biorefinery processes. Integrated biorefineries are seen as the most efficient tools for this transformation. Their design and implementation are carried out respecting its sustainability and, thus, contributing to the global circular economy. This chapter presents various biorefinery strategies and final products from FWL identical to those from petrochemicals or substitutes for different products obtained from fossil resources.

🌱 How far are you on your decarbonisation journey? Since joining Faerch Group in summer 2022, the learning curve has been steep 🚀 🌍 We completed Faerch’s GHG emissions baseline for 2022 after the acquisition of PACCOR – managing heaps of data was quite the challenge! 🎯 We made a strategic decision on target-setting, aligning with our business model and strategy - what was actually possible? 💪 We committed to the SBTi Net-Zero Standard in December 2022 - that was the easy part, but marked there was only one way forward. 🌍 We completed Faerch’s GHG inventory 2023 – the process had improved compared to the first year, but it can be even better. 📝 Started filing out the formal SBTi validation papers and submitted them in October 2023, and waited for our validation slot to open in January 2024 - happy to see so many wanting science-based targets. 🤝 Now, I'm thrilled to pass on this knowledge to new colleagues, suppliers and customers embarking on their decarbonisation journeys as well. 🔍 While this SBTi validation is a milestone it was also the “easy” part, it will require hard work and collaboration throughout the value chain to deliver on our commitments.
