I do what I do because I want to empower women to leave a POWERFUL economic footprint in this world. With every client I serve, I get to do that work each day. Imagine a world when, we, women are all brave enough, and bold enough to walk into all of our own individual callings. I have a feeling, we’re getting there. Did you know: The US has 12.3 million women-owned businesses. US women-owned businesses generate $1.8 trillion a year. 40% of US businesses are women-owned. Women started 1,821 net new businesses every day last year. 64% of new women-owned businesses were started by women of color last year. Latina women-owned businesses grew more than 87%. There are 114% more women entrepreneurs than there were 20 years ago. Shout out to all the women that make this world go round. To compile the World’s Most Powerful Women list, we looked at women across seven categories (business, technology, finance, media & entertainment, politics, philanthropy) Collectively, we looked at hard power (currencies and constitutions) & dynamic power (audiences, communities and creative influence). And we applied 4 metrics to determine who makes the list: money, media presence, spheres of influence and impact. A few years ago, I reached out to one of my "ICONS" to wish her a Happy Women's Day. Her response was, "I don't believe in this nonsense." This made me ponder. Is Women's Day really necessary or is it merely a marketing gimmick? Through the years, I've realized that there's no clear-cut answer to whether we need a Women's Day. Indeed, it has morphed into a capitalist trend. However, Women's Day does have its positive sides. • It prompts us to pause for a moment to appreciate the women in our lives. This includes our mothers, sisters, friends, and mentors. • The hype around Women's Day on social media encourages introspection on our societal roles. • The various campaigns and themes tied to Women's Day assist women in feeling less guilt about making self-focused decisions. While I understand and respect those who opt not to celebrate Women's Day, I personally choose to celebrate it. So, here's wishing you a very Happy Women's Day!
