But while the public supports member choice in theory, this does not necessarily mean they would take advantage of it. A move to member choice is unlikely to be transformative for engagement with pensions, but useful under new working patterns. It must be accompanied by other reforms, like strict FCA regulations, to avoid a loss of protections for consumers. Here are a few of the topics and questions we covered last week: 🌲We arranged and put in place protection policies for a Ltd Coy owner to ensure they are covered in the event that they cannot work. 🌲We consolidated a number of pensions for a couple approaching retirement and developed a strategy and plan for them to drawdown on them in the most tax efficient way. 🌲As we are approaching tax year end we having a number of dicsussions around utilising available allowances. The most common ones are ISA allowance (£20k a year) and the annual allowance for pensions. The government has published statutory guidance setting out the staged timetable by which it expects pension schemes to connect to the Pensions Dashboards. Jonathan Watts-Lay, Director, WEALTH at work comments; “The upcoming Pensions Dashboards will no doubt be a useful tool for employees, especially for those who have worked several jobs and have pensions from various employers. With the launch of the Pensions Dashboards approaching there is potential to develop this into ‘Open Finance’ which is an extension of Open Banking. The vision - to provide people with access to their personal and workplace pensions in one place - is undeniably brilliant in theory. But the implementation of such a project has been plagued with delays and scepticism. 👨💼 Paul Maynard, the Pensions Minister, emits nothing but unwavering confidence, insisting that the launch is 'on track' for 2026. But what about their feedback from IFAs and the industry at large? 🦾 As a fervent advocate of technology, I recognise that its proper application can revolutionise industries. However, it's not about the technology alone; it's about how that technology is implemented - and this is where the challenge lies. The technological complexity of the pensions dashboard is undeniable, as highlighted by Graeme Inglis, director of Poise Financial Planning. 💡The real question is, are these complexities being addressed with a proper, realistic timeline in mind?
