Good summary of current position from EY pensions below. It just rather brings home how successful the Treasury/PRA, insurers, PPF and tPR have been at stopping DB schemes accessing £ billions of private capital support for securing much safer member outcomes. At least DWP seem to recognise this... So why on earth would trustees want to embark on a Superfund solution given the continuing opposition and uncertainties? It's almost as successful as they all were in reducing DB scheme exposures to very decent equity returns 2012-2022 in exchange for negative returns from ILGs! Would someone please do the sums here and write a piece on what DB funding could have been without wholesale regulatory de-risking? Asset returns result in real current tangible value (bird in the hand) whereas valuing longer-term liabilities is a moveable feast (bird in the bush) ...the only certainty being that £s pensions need paying when they fall due however you choose to discount this. #pensions #governance #regulation #investment
