Every year on November 12th, healthcare professionals in Taiwan come together to commemorate their annual Doctor's Day. This date holds historical significance as it marks the birth of Dr. Yat-Sen Sun, the founding father of the Republic of China, who was also a physician. On this day, his dedication to the nation and his contributions to society are remembered and celebrated. Doctors in Taiwan face various challenges in their working environment, and concerns have been growing over shortages of doctors in certain specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology. Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive approach. The National Health Insurance Administration encourages clinics and hospitals to establish a two-way referral system, making it easier and more effective for patients to transfer between medical providers. This initiative aims to distribute the workload more evenly among doctors and improve their working conditions. Attention is also given to the future of the medical profession. Investment in the education and training of future doctors is seen as a crucial step in ensuring a steady supply of medical professionals across all specialties. I’m happy to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: Wiley Top Cited Paper from Wiley! This is for our paper: Disparities between perceived and true outcomes of infants born at 23-25 weeks’ gestation, published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. https://lnkd.in/gxjESXkC. Following on from this work, we developed a digital tool, NIC-PREDICT (available at https://nic-predict.com.au) an extremely preterm birth outcome predictor for clinicians to use when counselling parents about survival and long-term disability chances in babies born <28 weeks' gestation. In our latest study, we have shown this has led to greatly improved ability of clinicians to accurately predict outcome for babies based on their individual risk factors. This translational research should result in parents receiving more accurate information about their baby's prognosis prior to birth. #TopCitedPaper
