Our genuine commitment to eye care goes beyond our eye care centers. This summer, Pearle Vision joined OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation to sponsor a vision clinic in Fishkill, NY. During the clinic, our team alongside doctors and volunteers provided free vision screening and glasses to the children and adults in the community. Every patient that walked through the clinic got access to vision care and the opportunity to learn more about our commitment to healthy vision. Thank you everyone who volunteered their time to make a difference! #NobodyCaresForEyeMoreThanPearle

Welcome to First Sight LLC, where we're dedicated to transforming global vision care. My wife, Dr. Marsha Davidson and I are the founders and driving force behind this initiative. Our journey began as we traversed internationally, witnessing the acute need for affordable and accessible corrective eye care solutions. This realization led to the inception of First Sight, LLC; a 501(c)3, philanthropic organization committed to revolutionizing vision care. Our mission is simple, yet impactful: to provide affordable and accessible prescription eyeglasses in under ten minutes. It has been clinically tested and verified by the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Its affordable, with prices ranging from US$3.95 to $6.95. We've already distributed tens of thousands of high-quality eyeglasses in 31 countries, touching lives and improving vision for so many. But yet, a lot of more work needs to be accomplished. First Sight eyeglasses are always provided at no charge to the recipients in the under-served communities. What sets First Sight apart is our commitment to simplicity and efficiency. Our eyeglasses are designed to be low-tech, fool-proof and high impact, requiring no electricity or specialized equipment. With our system, even non-professionals can perform visual screenings and fit customized prescription eyeglasses quickly and easily. First Sight eyeglasses process is totally mobile, making them ideal for remote and underserved communities. They can be distributed anywhere, providing immediate relief to those in need. Each prescription pair can be prepared in under 10 minutes, and they're incredibly affordable, making vision correction more accessible than ever. Again, our process needs no qualified personnel - anyone can screen and fit our prescription eyeglasses. First Sight programs align exceptionally well with NGOs and faith-based organizations, whose missions include helping adults and children with the gift of good eyesight. As we age, nearly all of us experience difficulty seeing things up close. Known as “presbyopia,” this common condition can be addressed through an eye exam and eyeglasses. Yet, for the millions of people worldwide experiencing presbyopia who do not have access to an optometrist and reading glasses, presbyopia is permanent and continues to worsen until about age 65. Even if we are otherwise in good health, presbyobia -- if not addressed -- can significantly impact our ability to go about our daily lives. Optometry Giving Sight is committed to addressing presbyopia and other treatable and preventable vision conditions globally. We fund sustainable programs that expand the optometry profession in underdeveloped areas of the world in order to provide primary eye care services to children and adults in need. Consider this: When you read, do you sometimes unconsciously find yourself squinting your eyes? Squeeze your forehead? Stiffen without moving to focus your eyesight on the text? If you resonate with this, you are not alone. It is crucial to remind everyone that there is a connection between eye health and overall physical well-being, as headaches, neck pain, and cervical pain are often linked to visual discomfort. With this in mind, in 2024 the Employee Foundation of the VKR Group relaunches Healthy Habits campaign focused on eyesight. Our employees are welcome to apply for financial grants supporting eye-related illnesses. But the campaign is also serving wider society. The Employee Foundation has cooperated with the non-profit NGO Fight for Sight, Denmark, and funded the development of a web-based vision test available free of charge to everyone with access to the internet by either PC, Smartphone or tablet. The eyesight test has now been approved as a Class I medical device. Based on a grant from the Employee Foundation, the test is marked with the CE symbol, and the authorization is valid throughout the entire EU. It makes the test unique! The test is available on: eye-sight.org and it takes only 2 minutes to complete it. Taking the test may give you the first signal if something is happening with our eyesight - so that you can react at an early stage and go to a specialist. Your vision matters!

It's time for a refreshing look at eye care practice ownership. Most private optometric practices today are glorified servicing centers for vision 'insurance' companies (yes, I said most). This leads to overworked doctors taking on too many customers for too little profit. Staff begins to operate from a scarcity mentality. Everyone becomes too 'busy' to focus on enhanced success and instead focuses on avoiding failure. Eye doctors - make your business YOUR business. Learn from Kara Foster, OD and directcaredifference.com how to move your business into freedom by taking fewer vision plans. This is exactly what the eye care industry needs. Well done, Dr. Foster. https://lnkd.in/efmNXb5y

VIVA is more than just a camera. In a world where access to eye care is often limited, Viva enhances the pathway to accessibility. By empowering you to capture detailed retinal images, Viva becomes your partner in protecting the gift of sight. Every patient imaged is an opportunity to transform darkness into light; because vision isn’t just sight – it’s life. That's why we designed this non-mydriatic camera with the ability to image pupils as small as 3 mm. Image more patients regardless of traditional imaging obstacles. As we approach World Sight Day on October 8th, 2024, we recognize the importance of making vision a priority, globally. With this year's World Sight Day focused on the importance eyecare for children, let's together recognize that eye health in young people is not an optional extra. It is vital to everything. #VIVA #MyVolk #DigitalImaging #retinalimaging #50YearsofExcellenceandInnovation #WorldSightDay2024

Today, on "World Sight Day 2024", we come together under the global theme of “Love Your Eyes Kids” to raise awareness about children’s eye health. This October 10th, we are reminded of the crucial role that vision plays in a child’s growth, learning, and development. Millions of children worldwide live with untreated vision problems, which can hinder their education, limit their potential, and even lead to a lifetime of challenges. Studies show that a significant percentage of school dropouts are linked to undiagnosed vision issues, emphasizing the urgent need for early detection and intervention. This year’s theme, "Love Your Eyes Kids," highlights the importance of ensuring that every child has access to the eye care they deserve. At Lenskart Foundation, we’re aligned with this mission to protect and preserve children’s vision. Through our outreach and community initiatives, we strive to provide eye care to those who need it most, helping to remove barriers and create opportunities for children to thrive. On this World Sight Day, let’s unite to advocate for regular eye exams for children, raise awareness about the importance of eye health, and take action to build a future where every child can see the world clearly. Together, we can empower the next generation and ensure that no child is left behind due to preventable vision impairment. 💙👓 #WorldSightDay2024 #LoveYourEyesKids #EyeHealth #VisionMatters #lenskartfoundation

World Sight Day 2024: Focusing on the Vision of Our Future - Our Children Today, on October 10, 2024, we join hands to celebrate World Sight Day, a global day of awareness that shines a light on the critical importance of eye care for all. This year, our focus is on the younger generation, nurturing a love for their eyes, and ensuring that every child, regardless of where they are born, has access to the vision care they deserve. Our children are the heartbeat of tomorrow, the dreamers who will shape the future, and their vision is integral to seeing those dreams come to life. But in a world filled with digital screens and new challenges to eye health, protecting their vision is more crucial than ever. Early intervention, regular eye check-ups, and a lifestyle that prioritizes eye care can make a world of difference in a child’s life, helping them to explore the world clearly and reach their full potential. This World Sight Day, let us pledge to inspire a lifelong love for eye health among our children. Let’s encourage them to spend time outdoors, balance their screen time, and learn the value of taking care of their eyes—because vision is not just about seeing; it’s about perceiving the beauty, possibilities, and hope that life holds. Join us in raising awareness, spreading knowledge, and making eye care accessible for every child. Let’s ensure a future where every child can see their path, envision their goals, and achieve their dreams. #WorldSightDay2024 #LoveYourEyes #VisionForTheFuture #EyeCareForChildren #HealthyVision Venkataramanan Ramasethu

In celebration of Myopia Awareness Week https://bhvi.org/maw24/ and to help honor the incredible lifetime of research contributions by Professor Earl Smith, I am proposing a version of a drinking game. Next week, Earl Smith will be inducted into the University of Houston College of Optometry Hall of Visionaries and I will have the honor to say a few words about his career and what it has meant to me and to the field that I have also dedicated my career to. Feel free to share and to post any comments that you might have as well, particularly funny and/or embarrasing stories and they might make it into my toast. The Dukes of Earl were a group of FOE (Friends of Earl) who organized a few years ago to help raise funds for the Earl Smith Professorship at UHCO, https://lnkd.in/g5YMVxu6 and on the occasion of his induction, fittingly in Myopia Awareness Week, I would like to ask any and all optometrists, ophthalmologists, vision scientists and some of those industry tycoons with too much cash, to donate to the fund that will establish the professorship. Now, Earl is a committed scuba diver and while he may have a professor's ship, this fund is for a professorship and it will fund a faculty position as well as research at UHCO in the field of myopia. So, for every time that you have heard any of these phrases or claims, "peripheral hyperopic defocus," "visually guided growth," "lens compensation experiment," "when presented with two different focal planes, refractive development is dominated by the most myopic focus," "hemifield form deprivation stimulates localized growth," "visual signals from the periphery can dominate central refractive development," "contact lenses are poison disks, but they can be used to manipulate defocus to regulate eye growth," and my favorite, "Tom, that is about the dumbest idea I ever heard," followed by my second favorite, "You know, I think that was a pretty good idea you had there," but especially, every time you have heard a company tout a product that imposes myopic defocus on the retina, really any damn plus any damn place, and they don't acknowledge the intellectual property that underlies the mechanisms that they are using to regulate eye growth, I would propose that you go to the UHCO Earl Smith Professorship page and make a donation to show our profession's debt of gratitude to Earl Smith and his lab and really to all of the researchers who have contributed mightily to the field of myopia progression control. Thanks, Tom Aller Tom Aller
