In 2024, it's clear the hospitality industry needs a wake-up call. We can't continue to lose valuable employees to other higher-paying industries. The minimum wage is now $15/hour in several states. Meanwhile, many hospitality workers still earn near poverty-level wages. This outdated "pennies pinching" model is unsustainable. We must shift to a value-based model that properly compensates hospitality staff. As founders and entrepreneurs, we have a responsibility to empower our teams. Paying fair, livable wages is the first step. When employees feel valued and supported, they are motivated to provide exceptional service. This positively impacts customer experience, loyalty, and the bottom line. The challenges of the pandemic have shown the resilience of hospitality teams in the face of adversity. They deserve not only our gratitude but fair compensation for their dedication and hard work. The future of hospitality depends on it. The time for change is now. #Hospitality #labor #wages

Interesting article from James Sillars for Sky News this morning. The challenges facing the hospitality industry have been relentless, and the call for action is both urgent and necessary. The survey results from UKHospitality, the British Beer & Pub Association, and the British Institute of Innkeeping, and Hospitality Ulster are alarming but not surprising. After years of grappling with the impacts of Brexit, navigating through the disruptions caused by COVID-19, and now facing the daunting effects of the cost of living crisis, many operators find themselves on the brink. The looming increase in minimum wage levels, coupled with rising costs across the board, threatens the viability of countless businesses. It's clear that decisive action is needed to alleviate the burden and prevent further closures. We agree that measures such as a reduction in VAT, further energy support, capping the business rates increase, and reducing the rate of alcohol duty are vital. These steps would provide much-needed relief and enable operators like us to navigate through these challenging times. It's imperative that the Government listens to these concerns and takes swift and meaningful action to support businesses of all sizes across the industry. We look forward to seeing this in next month's Spring Budget. #HospitalityIndustry #Chancellor #AGOHotels #Economy https://lnkd.in/eRmGwj7F
