Terrific new study out about the impact of a simple and powerful tool to increase connection in healthcare:

To coincide with #MedComms Day (12th June) and the first session in Manchester of the HCA’s Annual Conference (13th June), the Healthcare Communications Association is launching our new measurement and evaluation campaign, Start SMART. Measurement and evaluation metrics should be included in all communications activities so we can demonstrate their impact and value. They need to be considered from the outset of our projects and is why we are encouraging organisations, teams, and individuals to always Start SMART. If we Start SMART, with a SMART objective, we are focused on what, how, and when we are going to measure and evaluate, from the very start of our activity. As professionals, and as a sector, we must continually learn and adapt, to ensure we consistently deliver our best work, and are able to demonstrate the value of communications. Effective measurement and evaluation are essential for these goals. Start SMART needs to become the healthcare communicator's mantra. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality National Advisory Council - which was held in advance of AcademyHealth's Annual Research Meeting - delved into a variety of topics including the future of health services research, strategies to promote age-friendly care, consumer experience measurement modernization, and care for American Indian/Native Alaskan birthing persons. What was clear throughout the entire 1.5 days was 1) a strong focus on ensuring partnerships with diverse research and community groups, 2) the need to strengthen communication/dissemination best-practices, and 3) grant-making must promote implementation of learnings. Clinical Networks: What’s in a name? I have had a few enquiries in recent months with colleagues in health systems other than Wales about ‘Clinical Networks’. I’ll be speaking at events later in the year on related topics – but I’ll issue boast-posts about those nearer the time. I became interested in them as a mechanism for linking health policy with implementation and delivery, crystallised in our National Clinical Framework. Judging by the conversations I have had, there is a lot of interest in developing them elsewhere. Of course, they often already exist – but that’s where the fun starts. What exactly is meant by the term ‘Clinical Network’ and what do they do? I plan to write 3 blogs over the next couple of weeks on the topic: specifically reflecting on how we started to reform existing clinical networks and create new ones in Wales. These are not intended as templates or blueprints (I really dislike that word!) for others to adopt – like much in healthcare, they are context specific. I hope, however, that they’ll stimulate some thoughts and conversation where you work. We are pleased to share our publication in BMC Conflict and Health. The paper, titled "The Red Cross Red Crescent Health Information System (RCHIS): An Electronic Medical Records and Health Information Management System for the Red Cross Red Crescent Emergency Response Units", details the development and implementation of the RCHIS. This study presents the design and functionality of the Red Cross Red Crescent Health Information System (RCHIS), an innovative electronic medical records and health information management system tailored for international emergency response units. The RCHIS aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of medical data management in crisis situations, thereby improving the delivery of healthcare services. This work represents a collaborative effort between DigiHealth Institute, the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC. The paper was authored by Felix Holl, FAMIA, Lauren Clarke, Thomas Raffort, Elvire Serres, Laura Archer, and Panu Saaristo.
