FIVE DAYS TIL WE 🚀🚀🚀🚀 bp early careers will be going live with applications for the 2025 internship and full-time graduate positions on Wednesday August 21st, 2024. Mark it! 🗓 It's me again, here to dish out some important things to consider as we approach fall recruitment. Statistics 📈show that recent students 👨🎓👩🎓 and graduates continue to rank these as the most important factors when searching for employment. *in no specific order as data is pulled from many sources... 1. 💰Salary 💰: We're all trying to get paid amirite? While we all aim to be financially stable 🤑, it's important to do your research. Be weary of your sources because we, as humans, will always see 👀 what we want to see and 👂hear what we want to hear when it comes to "ranges." Research the market 📑. Compare competitors within industry. While many companies have a standardized alignment on salaries/pay 💲 within early careers, what is your projectory potential. Know your worth, but stay humble🙏. 2. 👥 Company culture 👥: We all want to belong right? Feel safe? Have a purpose? Some of us want to come to work, and then go straight home. Some of us want to get involved. Some like being suited up 👔- emphasis on some ;). Many simply want to dress comfortably. Does the company offer Business Resource Groups that celebrate and advocate for people who look AND think like you? Are there opportunities for allyship to support others who DONT look or think like you. You may not love your job, but you may love the people you work with. That is powerful. ❤️🧡💛💙💜🩶🤍🖤🤎 3. 👷♀️The job itself 👨💼: Will you truly be performing tasks that you aimed to develop? Will you gain ✅️the experience you're seeking? It's a tough one, because many companies can be fluid when it comes to day to day. What you'll want to inquire 🗣when meeting peeps from the biz is if they went through the programs, what valuable 👌experience did they gain? Challenge the employers and walk away with a better understanding of 🤔 what it is that you'll actually be doing! There are plenty of other things you'll want to consider such as benefits 💓, eventual paid time off/vacation 🏖, and flexible working 🏡. Make a list 📝. Cross-compare companies. Connect on LinkedIn and ask! There are so many professionals out there willing to help you! The information is at your finger☝️ tips...well with a computer 💻...the internet and another person 💁♀️ in between. Happy Recruitment Season! 🔥🔥🔥LET'S GOOOOO!!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Embracing the Journey: Navigating the Job Hunt as a Fresh Graduate 🎓 As a recent graduate, I'll admit—I've felt the weight of uncertainty looming over the job hunt process. It's natural to feel a mix of nerves and excitement, especially when faced with the unknown. But isn't that what makes life thrilling? Reflecting on my journey post-internship, I've come to realize that landing the dream job isn't always immediate. It's a journey filled with twists, turns, and yes, moments of doubt. But through it all, one thing remains true: perseverance pays off. Sure, the waiting game can be nerve-wracking, but I've learned to embrace the uncertainty and live in the present moment. After all, each step forward—no matter how small—is progress in itself. So to my fellow graduates embarking on this adventure, remember this: it's okay to feel scared, but never let fear hold you back. With hard work, determination, and a sprinkle of optimism, the right opportunity will find its way to you. Here's to embracing adulthood—one job application at a time. Let's do this! #JobHunt #NewBeginnings #EmbraceTheJourney"

That's why it's important to make the most of every opportunity that comes our way. Whether it's a chance to attend a conference, participate in a research project, or take on a leadership role in a student organization, don't miss out! These experiences not only enhance your resume and skillset, but they also allow you to network with professionals in your field and gain valuable insights into your chosen career path. So, whenever you come across an opportunity, take a leap of faith and go for it! Fresh out of college, landing my first real job felt like a triumph after a year of relentless searching and unpaid internships. But just two months in, my excitement turned to disillusionment. Requesting a single day off before the July 4th weekend seemed reasonable—until it was met with a stern refusal and a threat that hung over me like a dark cloud: take the day off, and you might as well not come back. That moment was a harsh introduction to the realities of the working world, where your time—and by extension, your life—is not always your own. This experience, while seemingly minor, ignited a fire within me. The indignation at being denied my autonomy, at the prospect of spending the next 40-45 years under someone else's thumb, was unbearable. It was the push I needed to reimagine my future. This wasn't just about a day off; it was about a lifetime of choices, of autonomy, of freedom. The realization hit me hard: the traditional path was not the only path. I began to envision a life where I could be the master of my time, my work, and my destiny. It was the first, undeniable call to carve out my own path and start something that was truly mine. Sometimes, it's the moments of restriction that remind us of our deep-seated need for freedom. They compel us to question, to challenge, and ultimately, to take control of our own lives. Feeling trapped in a cycle of expectation and exhaustion? Let's talk. It's time to take the first step towards building a life where you call the shots.

Are you a rising senior? O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs I attended a webinar hosted by Handshake Access (Gen Z gets real: an honest conversation with early talent) with a student panel sharing advice on their job search experience. Here's what they had to say: What is your advice on when to start the job search? - Start in August/early Fall - Starting early is always better because you never know how many options you’re going to get from applying. - I started looking my junior year. What is the most influential factor for your career choice? - Sustainability and company culture and values. I need these to align with my personal values. - Growth opportunities. I want to work for an organization that promotes continuous learning which can lead to financial opportunities and increased life opportunities. - Stability within the organization. Financially, emotionally, mentally. And shared passion. Other advice? - Use your Career Centers frequently to check in and to get advice. Get involved with experiences early on such at part-time jobs, formal internships and student organizations. - Reach out. Have career conversations. Seek out those who are doing similar career interests. - Find your people. Be willing to have honest and raw conversations with someone who knows you well enough such as your family, friends and mentors. Use the services of your career center and academic advising office. You need people who are 1) listening to you and 2) advocating for you. The Hub is open during the summer and you can meet with the assistant directors to discuss your job search. Just sign up on Handshake! Happy first day of summer. 😁

The feeling of NOT DOING ENOUGH. Inferiority complex, inadequacy, insecurity. Haven’t we all been stuck in this never-ending rut of not giving our best shot? But how do we decide what’s enough? How do we decide when to stop? I think we would never find answers to these questions. They will always seem like a distant mystery to us. We spend our whole lives just chasing the NEXT BIG THING. The next PAYCHECK, PERFECT CGPA SCORE, SOCIETY POR, INTERNSHIP, or JOB PROMOTION. But in this process, we forget to live in the present. We forget to actually press pause for a while and see how far we have come. On New Year’s Eve, the drunk you (or not) must have said that 2024 is going to be my year. I will seize every moment. But are we seizing every moment? And in no way, I’m saying that we should stop dreaming or give up on our goals. I’m telling you to be the most ambitious person you can ever be, but draw a line. Certain times, things are not in our control. At those times, just SUBMIT. Just remember that job or internship, you are cribbing about is just a very small part of your very big life. I think it’s time to go read that novel that you’ve dying to, or just call up your old school friends and catch up with them. Basically, do all those things that you love and make you love your life a lot. P.S. This photo is when I went to meet my old school friends. Probably, one of the craziest days. This is the raw, unfiltered in me. For more such content, follow Ishpreet Kakkar on LinkedIn. LinkedIn #chase #seize #liveyourlife
