The two sides of having a sibling with a medical condition. We recently conducted a qualitative interview study with parents of young people with a medical condition. One of the key themes that emerged was the disease's impact on their other children. Many parents felt that their children were more empathetic than their peers, with a mature perspective on life. However, they recognized that their children had not been afforded the opportunities and attention given to most, owing to the inevitable need to prioritize the care of the sibling with the condition. For more information about our research in the fields of family, caregiver, and sibling impact, get in touch at [email protected].

The Hidden Key to Health Outcomes The real challenge isn’t just the experiences we go through, but how they’re processed—or not processed—over time. Children who face trauma without support carry those unprocessed experiences into adulthood, affecting their health later on. What’s alarming is that many medical professionals are unaware of the ACES study, which reveals these crucial connections. Even when educating doctors at major facilities like Kaiser Permanente, some still haven’t heard of it. Screening new patients, it's important to dive into their early life experiences to understand their health better. Sometimes it’s met with surprise, but knowing this can make a huge difference in healing. #ACESTudy #TraumaHealing #HealthOutcomes #MindBodyConnection #MedicalAwareness

If you know me, you know that I love working with medical residents. Yesterday I had the pleasure of facilitating an improv workshop with the pediatric residents at Advocate Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. What a fun group! They gave it their all and had a great time doing it. Improv is such an effective tool to teach emotional intelligence, teamwork, communication and mental flexibility. You can see that it’s not your typical workshop. #medicalimprov #experientialimprov #improv #improvtraining #worplacewellness #workplacewellbeing #reducingburnout #physicianwellbeing #healthcareadministration #healthcareburnoutprevention #emotionalintelligence #healthyworkplace
