😤 If you ever find yourself in a situation where the AI vendor, without as much as analysing your data, can guarantee *insert whatever accuracy*% performance, run away 🏃♂️ 🤔 If you ever find yourself in a conversation where the client is demanding you a certain performance milestone without you, as an AI service provider, even having the possibility of assessing their data, run away 🏃♀️ 💬 This reminds me of a conversation I had with a prospect 5 years ago when we were just starting in the AI space: Prospect: Can you reach 99% accuracy? Me: I don't know. We have to first analyse your data, conduct an initial experiment and then iterate towards improving the baseline performance. Prospect: Yes, but *this other provider" can guarantee it. I ended the conversation in the next minute and left the building. The flying pigeon is a good analogy for this situation: 🎯 You can absolutely get to 99% accuracy. It doesn't mean you're measuring the right thing. ⚙ Your AI/ML model "can work" and output something that looks like the right thing. Until you measure it correctly, "it works" can look more like the flying pigeon. As a salesperson with 12 years experience in b2b receivables I often ask for Accounts Payable as a key to the gate. Once connected I will do some discovery and ask for contact information for a decision maker. What’s your key to the gate? How do you charm the gatekeeper and move forward?
