Today, I want to share a vision that holds immense potential for impact: the powerful collaboration between corporations and non-profit organizations. For me, that organization is Cradles To Crayons Inc, specifically their Philadelphia Chapter. National Volunteer Week (April 21-27) Serving in your #community and #volunteering are powerful ways to make a positive impact on the world around you. By dedicating your time and skills to helping others, you can create meaningful change, foster connections and contribute to the well-being of those in need. While National Volunteer Week kicks off April 21, VA invites everyone in the community to explore ways to give back to Veterans any time of the year. In addition, #Veterans can explore volunteer opportunities as part of VetServe 2024, which encourages Veterans to become volunteers to support other Veterans. On April 24, 2024, join #VA in supporting a National Day of Service through VetServe 2024. #VetServe is a celebration of service and a call-to-action aimed to encourage the nation’s 19 million Veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors to serve in their community. Did you know 🤷♂️ 🙌In Fiscal Year 2023, 25,403 active volunteers contributed more than 3.2 million hours of service to Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors at VA medical facilities across the country. Additionally, these individuals, along with community partners generously donated more than $81.1 million to VA, supporting critical programs and essential services that have a lasting and positive impact on Veterans. 🤯 There were 25,403 volunteers on VA’s rolls during FY 2023, contributing a total of more than 3.2 million hours of service. It would require 1,565 Full Time Equivalents (FTE) to cover the workload of CDCE volunteers. 🎯#CDCE volunteers and their organizations contributed more than $81.1 million in gifts and donations in FY 2023 for a combined total value of over $112.4 million in volunteer service and giving. 🤜🤛Monetary estimates aside, it is impossible to calculate the amount of caring and sharing these CDCE volunteers provide to Veteran patients. #NationalVolunteerWeek #VA #Volunteers #Community #VetServe

It's interesting to see what happens when you speak out. In this case, it’s an invitation via Tim Eby to join the board at the St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation and the honor that comes with serving. The Foundation is an education non-profit, part of Explore St. Louis, our local convention and tourism bureau. The mission: to energize St. Louisans to support their community. Here’s where I editorialize. This is an example of passion + need = opportunity. I'm passionate and vocal that each of us needs to SHOW UP to improve the cities we live in, for ourselves and the generations to come. And my home town, which has so much potential and resources, also has many challenges. Improving civic pride is one of dozens of things needed to address those challenges. Which leads to opportunty: when someone comes knocking, asking for help, in my experience you find a way to help. Bottom line: just say yes! I’m excited to join my fellow board members, roll up my sleeves and get to work!

As we kick off National Volunteer Appreciation Month tomorrow, I'm reminded of the profound impact that building genuine, meaningful relationships can have on volunteer retention within the nonprofit sector. My time with the Boy Scouts of America underscored the value of these connections, showing that beyond traditional management techniques, it's the personal, individualized approach that truly makes a difference. At the core of keeping volunteers engaged is recognizing their unique motivations and dedicating ourselves to developing real connections with them. This means being actively present at events, not just overseeing but participating and showing genuine appreciation for their efforts. Personal gestures like handwritten thank-you notes, acknowledging personal milestones, and remembering important dates demonstrate care and foster a deeper bond with the organization. Creating a sense of community among volunteers, where they can connect and support each other, also plays a crucial role in retention. This approach not only makes volunteers more likely to stay but also turns them into ambassadors for the cause, driven by their strong connection to the mission and to each other. The key to successful volunteer retention lies in these strong, genuine relationships. By focusing on individual connections, personal recognition, and fostering a sense of belonging, we can create a volunteer base that is not just committed for the short term but deeply dedicated to the cause for years to come. This month, let's celebrate the power of these relationships and the incredible impact they have on our missions and the volunteers who help propel them forward. So take the time to show your volunteers how much you appreciate them in a unique and meaningful way to them. #volunteers #leadership #nonprofit #thankfulforvolunteers
