I recently finished reading Annie Duke's Quit: The Power of Knowing When To Walk Away. It was incredibly inspiring, and I gleaned many fantastic takeaways. One particularly notable insight involved ants. We've all seen images of ants walking single-file to and from a food source, taking advantage of the known food supply. This is what is meant by exploitation. It isn't nefarious. It just means extracting as much value as possible from a known opportunity. If you pan out, you might also notice forager ants. These ants deviate from the pack in search of new food sources. Since food sources can be unstable (someone might clean up that watermelon slice that was dropped on the ground), or more high-quality food sources may exist, it's good to have a backup plan. In other words, just because you have a good thing going doesn't mean there isn't something better out there. Many physicians remain intently focused on their current roles and responsibilities, often due to the demanding nature of our work and the significant investment required to reach our positions. While dedication is crucial, it's equally important to remain open to new opportunities. Just as the forager ants seek out new food sources, physicians can benefit from exploring different job opportunities, career paths, and new possibilities in our profession that could lead to greater fulfillment, impact, and ultimately, happiness. "When we find something that's working for us, whether it's a job, a career, a product that we're developing, a business strategy, or even a favorite restaurant that we love going to, continuing to explore what other options might be available is a good strategy in a world as uncertain as the one that we live in. Never stop exploring." Never. Stop. Exploring. 🐜 How do you balance exploiting known opportunities with exploring new ones? 🐜 What strategies do you use to assess when it's time to move on from a current situation? 🐜 How might knowing about new opportunities impact how you feel about your current roles? #WhatsNext #PersonalGrowth #Exploration #CareerAdvice #Mindset #ContinuousImprovement #AnnieDuke #Quit #LifeLessons #PhysicianLife #PhysicianJourney #PhysicianEmpowerment #PhysicianCare #ShowUpForYourself #PhysicianWellness #PhysicianRevolution #PhysicianWellBeing #MedicalMindsetShift

Think about to quit your job if... - you rarely receive appreciation from your manager & the team. - your employer doesn't spend any money on your further training. - you have a stomach ache on Sundays because you think about work. - you have no prospect of promotion, but you want it. - you do not identify with the company culture. - your job makes you unhappy or even sick. - you are not seen and heard. Of course, the most important thing is to pay attention to your own needs and goals in order to find a fulfilling and healthy work environment. But one is for sure: Being unhappy at work should never be an option. When do you think it's time to quit the job?

Helping businesses create impact through creative content, social media and website marketing - 1 x ⍋ planted per invoice (total trees: 345)
Anyone else get super excited over what might seem like the smallest work-related stuff? This has been a theme for me. My first job as a teenager was cleaning holiday homes. The 'before and after' satisfaction was always a good feeling (and I made £30 a week to spend in H&M). I worked as a sales assistant at a health food shop during college. I was studying journalism and creative writing at the time, but I was also learning about the benefits of health food supplements and more holistic ways of living. (Though, at 20, I was considerably less health conscious than I am now, i.e., mostly interested in milk thistle for liver detox.) Regardless, I loved it when customers came in with their success stories. Even during my four years in the energy sector, the thrill of finally reconciling a disputed electricity meter reading after months of back-and-forth would give me a right buzz. And I'll never forget the delight of working at the ( now closed :( ) tourist office in Lyme Regis. Nothing beat hearing visitors share their experiences from an event they attended because of our social media promotion or showing me the fossils they found on the local beaches. But this week has revealed the most exciting work-related occurrence in 20+ years of careers: LinkedIn now allows edits to scheduled posts!!! Yep, THIS is the pinnacle of all previous professional perks. This will significantly enhance precision and how to manage content on LinkedIn. Thanks, LinkedIn. A win for me and a win for clients. The small things can be pretty substantial when you're passionate about your work...💚 p.s. poor accompanying graphic on my part but 1) it's Friday 2) clearly demonstrates my excitement. #career #littlewins #socialmediaupdates #branchoutmarketing #socialmediatips #linkedintips #creativecontent #digitalmarketing

Six weeks ago I started my new life. New job. New city. Same me. So here is some unsolicited advice from an (almost) 28 year old. Six things I would tell anyone starting a new job: 1. Absorb everything that you can. Listen. I know you have big ideas. But just wait. Don’t come in too hot before you have the lay of the land. 2. Don’t bring your bad habits from your previous job. No one knows if you’re a lousy minutes taker or have poor digital hygiene. You get a clean slate. Use it. 3. Having questions or not knowing how to use new systems does not make you inadequate. 4. Take time to enjoy the newness of it all. 5. Acknowledge all the effort and persistence it took to get here. You’re allowed to be proud of yourself. They picked you remember? 6. When in doubt coffee is the easiest form of bribery. #newjob #capetown #fieldbar
