The top French commanders assumed that German tanks simply could not make it through a thickly wooded region known as the Ardennes Forest. As a result, French forces did not bother preparing a strong defense in that area. Most of the French army and their British allies instead protected against a small, diversionary force that the Germans had sent as a deception to the north of the forest. German forces made it through the forest, encircled the allied forces, and started driving them toward the ocean. Many thousands of French and British soldiers were killed or captured. In retrospect, the French generals had ignored an important lesson of history: Do not make assumptions about what your adversary can and cannot do. Executives/leaders who make similar assumptions about their competitors put their organizations’ performance in jeopardy. Take home for [junior] Engineers : Never assume the journey will be easy. Be always willing to learn, no body knows everything. Listen more and talk less. That’s why we have two ears and one mouth.

The TED talk broke the internet. No fancy slides. Just a flip chart with a marker and hand-held microphone. Do you know “why” you do what you do? I do. My story is pretty standard for military veterans. 🤙🏼 I had left the service of our country and the ideals of dedication to something bigger than myself and my fellow airmen. ✈️ And then - it was done and I could grow my hair out. 😊 It took me 8 years of corporate roles and training to finally find my “why” - healthcare and #medtech. For me, it’s as noble as fighting for country and countrymen. Now that I know my “why” it helps me evaluate my tasks, duties and roles. How about you? What’s your story? And if you’re a vet in transition, feel free to reach out. #leadership #changinglives #dothething

Military camaraderie is defined as... A unique bond that transcends time, duty, and service. It is a connection that is often hard to describe yet so palpable for those who've experienced it. Whether on the front lines or during times of peace, the sense of belonging and mutual respect within the military community is unparalleled. I am often asked during TAP sessions... "What is the main difference that I experienced between serving in the military compared to thirty years in corporate America?" That question is easy to answer... The feeling of camaraderie is innate in our armed forces and rare to find in the private sector. We have ~250,000 service members transition out of the military each year. These service members bring the spirit of camaraderie to any organization. This means they can be a positive influence to unify members of an organization together, as one team, to achieve the best possible results. Camaraderie Example - US Army and US Air Force (Ron Nathaniel Sandel) as one unified team!
