Several years ago now, I had the opportunity to visit and do some filming at a uranium mine. With thanks to Frankie F. for this production, I love this little clip and what it reminds me of - how the fundamentals of nuclear energy so directly address so many of the principles of environmental sustainability. Efficiency, light footprints, and low impacts. Australia is the 3rd largest exporter of uranium to support nuclear power around the world. Not all of us can easily get to visit mines, and seeing this is different to reading about it. A quick quantitative reminder: once enriched to 3.5 %, from the 0.7% that is in my hand, this mineral offers 3,900,000 MJ of energy per kg. That's about a hundred thousand times more than the equivalent mass of fossil fuel. Enjoy this clip from Atomic Diaries.

My adopted state is apparently the most "normal" state in US, according to this index. What makes IL an outlier, however, is the amount of nuclear energy the state relies on, leads the country. https://lnkd.in/gcnDBXBY
