“Convergence is the Holy Grail for the future of medicine,” Page Healthcare Sector Leader Tushar Gupta, FAIA, told physicians and leadership during Grand Rounds at the Marnix E. Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Designing areas of intersection where researchers and clinical care staff can cross paths and share the excitement and innovation that comes out of spontaneous intellectual collisions – creating this convergence is a driving force for Page’s approach to healthcare design. Tushar and Page Healthcare Planning Director Mark Vaughan, FAIA, were thrilled to join Rubin Pillay PhD,MD,MBA,MSc,BSc(Hon)Pharm, Assistant Dean, Executive Director, and Chief Innovation Officer for the Institute, to share this approach and talk directly with doctors and medical professionals working on the front lines of healthcare. "It's about bringing people into a place they actually want to be,” said Mark, as he and Tushar explained how hospitals can extend health and wellness zones well into surrounding communities by providing spaces and opportunities for education, demonstration, exercise, support in making good and healthy decisions for wellness, and even offering events, such as concerts and lectures, that draw people closer together in shared experience. Thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to co-present with my good friend and colleague Tushar Gupta, FAIA. We had the priviledge of talking with physicians, students, and healthcare leaders at UAB's Grand Rounds, focused on 5 subtopics: Promoting Intellectual Collisions, Redefining Delivery, Engaging Our Communities, Humanizing Technology, and incorporating Sustainable and Resiliency.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting you guys. Innovation in Built Environment design is crucial if we are to reap the benefits of the technological avalanche. We have also integrated this concept into all our training.
