What happens when patients lack access primary care? A new study looking at the impacts of living in primary care shortage areas showed higher rates of emergency surgery, serious complications, and hospital readmissions. Those in areas with the most severe shortages were also more likely to have serious complications. But it doesn't have to be this way. Pennsylvania can take action to prevent higher rates of emergency surgery and complications by increasing patient access to primary care. Full practice authority for nurse practitioners through SB25 and HB1825 would allow NPs to open clinics and provide care to patients living in primary care shortage areas, which would improve patient health across Pennsylvania and in its underserved communities. Tell PA legislators that Pennsylvanians deserve access to safe, quality primary care services - join PCNP and NPs from across Pennsylvania in Harrisburg on April 30 to advocate for full practice authority! New primary care hubs have opened across Cornwall in 8 locations, offering extra on the day GP appointments for people needing urgent care for acute minor illness. The new concept aims to ease urgent on the day demand on general practice, allowing practices to focus on patients with long-term conditions. The hubs are conveniently located across the county in health settings at Launceston, Bodmin, St Austell, Truro, Mount Hawke, Redruth, Helston and St Ives. Q: How are patients referred to the hubs? A: Patients who contact their GP surgery for an appointment will be triaged and booked an appointment at a suitably located primary care hub. You can’t just turn up; you will need to have had an appointment made by your GP surgery. Q: What do the hubs provide? A: The primary care hubs are run by health professionals including a GP or another experienced healthcare practitioner with minor illness experience, who will offer advice and onward care including issuing prescriptions.

Thinking Thursday.... How does working exclusively with a surgical hospital benefit the patient? In our circumstance, the patient benefits in a few ways. First and foremost, through the care they receive. Having a hospital that is physician owned, allows us to be aligned with our values. Red Carpet, Whole Health Orthopedic Institute and Edgewood Surgical Hospital all have one thing in common: our main priority is our patient care. Edgewood is a patient-focused, education based, close to home surgical hospital, just like we are. Our concierge patients love Edgewood because it feels like an extension of Whole Health and Red Carpet. We are all on the same page as a staff which makes patient experience seamless between locations and offices. As a concierge patient, you stay at the beautiful Grand Resort before, during and after surgery, which is less than twenty minutes from the surgical hospital. Convenience is key when you are recovering from surgery. Lastly, the administration is crucial. As a physician owned surgical hospital, you have education, experienced and detailed administrators making decisions about the hospital. Voices are heard, facts are presented, and patients are always first. It makes a difference. #Physicians - Do you work exclusively with a surgical hospital? #Patients - What is your experience in having surgery at a surgical hospital? #SurgicalHospital #PrivatePractice #WholeHealth

#PriceTransparency is something that's increasingly defining #HealthCare's future. As somebody who has had multiple specialist visits and medical procedures in the past 18 months, plus another kiddo coming in November, I think that's a good thing. Just some of the benefits of price transparency: 💪 Empowering patients to make informed decisions 🤑 Reducing unexpected medical bills; when prices are clear, patients can anticipate and plan for expenses, reducing the financial stress that often accompanies medical care. 🤼 Healthier competition, with transparency forcing health care providers to compete on pricing (like most other businesses do) ⭐ More trust in the health care system and accountability (if providers can justify their pricing structures) Price transparency in #AmbulatorySurgeryCenters, in particular, is becoming more common. Ambulatory Surgery Center News reporter Shelby Grebbin explores why in this new story, which led our weekly newsletter today. A big thanks to Surgery Center Of Oklahoma's Dr. Keith Smith, Jay Kempton and WellBridge Surgical's Jeff Williams for their insights. Story here: https://lnkd.in/gSagb9iV

✨ Tues-a-cation..... ✨ Aldrete Score: 🎯 After a surgery or procedure where sedation or medication is administered, a healthcare provider has to determine a patients readiness to go home or back to their inpatient room assignment. 🎯 The Aldrete score is a system used to determine the readiness of post-anesthesia patients for discharge from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) to a second-stage recovery area, inpatient hospital room, or home. 🎯 The Aldrete score consists of five criteria, each of which is assigned a rating of 0, 1, or 2 based on the patient's status. The criteria includes: ☑ Activity- able to ambulate ☑ Respiration- breathing normally and independently ☑ Circulation- Blood pressure back to baseline range (pressures before the procedure) ☑ Consciousness- awake ☑ Oxygen saturation- maintaining oxygenation above 92% on room air, or back to baseline ✅ A score of 9 or higher is generally required for discharge from the PACU. The Aldrete score has been widely used in clinical practice and research as a tool to evaluate post-anesthesia patients. However, there are concerns about its validity and reliability, particularly when used as the sole criteria for discharge. Clinical judgement and comparison of patients before procedure activity is crucial in determining the readiness to be discharged. 🔥 #askusforhelptowinyourcase 🔥 ✨ Contact Us Today! ✨ EM: [email protected] Website: https://lnkd.in/gDzucPDt #nurse #dme #nurseobserver #legalnurse #legalnurseconsultant #medicalrecords #medicalrecordsreview #personalinjury #personalinjuryattorney #medicalmalpractice #medicalmalpracticeattorney #attorney #lasvegas #californialawyer

Saddened to read that children are suffering due to long NHS surgery waiting lists: The record figures from private healthcare providers come as England's NHS trusts tell File on 4 that children have become the “forgotten generation” in the race to reduce health service backlogs. It means that the number of children receiving treatment in private hospitals across the UK rose by almost a quarter last year to more than 46,000, according to new data seen by the BBC. It also states: ‘Most of these long waits are in England - approaching 16,000 at the start of this month, up 15% in a year. Before the pandemic, it was extremely rare for children to wait more than a year for surgery.’ Read more: ‘More sick children go private as others face NHS waits’ https://buff.ly/4bBN9vP #NHSwaitinglist #Privatehealthcare #Fileon4
