Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners’ Post

What happens when patients lack access primary care? A new study looking at the impacts of living in primary care shortage areas showed higher rates of emergency surgery, serious complications, and hospital readmissions. Those in areas with the most severe shortages were also more likely to have serious complications. But it doesn't have to be this way. Pennsylvania can take action to prevent higher rates of emergency surgery and complications by increasing patient access to primary care. Full practice authority for nurse practitioners through SB25 and HB1825 would allow NPs to open clinics and provide care to patients living in primary care shortage areas, which would improve patient health across Pennsylvania and in its underserved communities. Tell PA legislators that Pennsylvanians deserve access to safe, quality primary care services - join PCNP and NPs from across Pennsylvania in Harrisburg on April 30 to advocate for full practice authority!
