In 2022, the UK issued its first ever heat warning and temperatures soared to 40 degrees in London. Climate change means this extreme weather is the new normal. This collaboration between University of Oxford, Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford, BBC ideas & Social Sciences Division, University of Oxford was an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of the research being done into #ExtremeHeat and #SustainableCooling. We aimed to highlight innovative approaches to cooling, starting with ancient architectural techniques designed to keep spaces cool, to modern passive cooling strategies – that may help turning off that air con, keeping cool and reducing the environmental impacts of cooling.
