An #artificialintelligence-fueled growth in #data center construction has the federal government asking what it should do to help manage data security risks. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is interested in identifying opportunities "to improve data centers’ market development, supply chain resilience, and data security." The UK government has announced that Data Centres in the UK will be classified as critical national infrastructure, joining the emergency services, finance and healthcare systems, and energy and water supplies. This means that in a major incident, such as a cyber-attack, IT outage or extreme weather, the UK government would provide data centre operators extra support to minimise disruption. The UK government says it backs the sector describing data centres as “the engines of modern life,” and a team of officials will be set up to monitor potential threats against data centres and coordinate a response in the event of a serious incident. Commenting on the announcement Ed Parkins MSc CISM, Senior Director of Security and Resilience at Colt DCS, said: “We have always considered our data centres to be critical to our customers in all the countries in which we operate. As a UK-founded global data centre provider and operator, formal recognition of this by the UK government is a positive step. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Government to further shape the security and resilience of our industry, whilst being mindful of our environmental responsibilities”. https://lnkd.in/eFUA9rjB #datacentres #digitalinfrastructure #security #resilience

Kudos to the govt. of UK to formally recognise the DC sector as one of the key and critical infrastructure of the country. With how the world is fast evolving digitally with data and data management being the fulcrum of most businesses and establishments, it is pertinent for countries and states to recognise and give emphasis for the Data Center sector and its infrastructure. #ukdatacentre #ukdatacenter #ukdatcentres #datacentrepolicy #datacentrepolicies #datacentreinfrastrucutre #datacenterinfrastructure #keyinfrastructure #keyinfrastructure #govtdcpolicy #govtdcpolicies #govtdatacentrepolicy #govtdatacentreinitiatives #datacentrerecognition #globaldatacentre #globaldcmarket

This week the announcement came out that Data Centres in the UK are to be classified as critical national infrastructure, joining the emergency services, finance and healthcare systems, and energy and water supplies. It means they would get extra government support during a major incident, such as a cyber attack, an IT outage or extreme weather, in order to minimise disruption. I remember during Covid, we had to justify why Data Center personnel needed exemptions to continue working. I’m delighted as this new announcement reinforces that importance, recognizing the critical role data centers play in supporting the digital backbone of the economy. #digitalinfrastructure #edgedatacentres https://lnkd.in/eGQnDVyc

What role does a data centre play in ensuring your business's digital strategy is effective? The article I came across highlights the numerous advantages of having a dedicated data centre. In today’s data-driven world, a reliable data centre can significantly enhance your operational efficiency, improve data security, and even reduce latency for your applications. For businesses looking to scale, having the right infrastructure is crucial. The piece also emphasizes how data centres support compliance with regulations, which can be a game-changer for companies handling sensitive information. I’m curious about your thoughts—how do you think data centres are shaping the future of business technology? https://lnkd.in/er_3bd-a

Power Project|Power Distribution-Business Operations|O&M|AMI|Smart Meter|MDM|HES|System & Integration|SAP-ISU|Project Managment|Meter to Cash|Process|AT&C Loss|Collections|Quality|EHS|P&L
Overview: How Smart Meter Communicates with Head End System (Part–2 of 3) 5. Data Transmission Request: When smart meter is ready to transmit data, it sends a transmission request to the HES. This request is formatted using standardized protocols such as Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). The request includes information about the data to be transmitted such as type of data, time period etc 6. Data Transmission: Smart Meter data consists of Meter Reading e.g. Consumption, power factor, Meter status like Connection status, alarm conditions, event logs like power outages, meter tamper & configuration data like meter settings, firmware version Smart meter breaks down formatted data into packets & encrypts it using advanced encryption algorithms such as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS). The encrypted data packets then transmitted to HES through established communication network AES-128 (Advanced Encryption Standard with 128-bit key) is a widely used encryption algorithm that protects data. AES-128 is a symmetric-key block cipher that encrypts & decrypts data using a 128-bit key. AES creates data packets & send data in packets. It generates & stores keys securely & updates it regularly. Uses Secure Encryption modes & authenticated encryption. Using AES-128, AMI system can ensure the confidentiality, integrity & authenticity of meter data. How AES-128 Works: Key Generation: A 128-bit key is generated Data Division: Data is divided into 128-bit blocks Encryption: Each block is encrypted using the key Cipher Text:Encrypted data (cipher text) is produced Example of smart meter data transmission with AES-128 encryption: SM transmits meter reading to HES. Assume Meter readings include following parameters: -Meter ID -Timestamp -Consumption data -Power factor Data Transmission Structure using AES-128: -Header: MeterID, timestamp -Payload: Meter reading, status, event log -Footer: Checksum, encryption Meter Data Encryption Process: -Key Generation: HES generates a 128-bit AES key -Key Exchange: HES shares AES key with Smart Meter securely -Data Preparation: SM prepares meter readings for transmission. -Encryption: SM encrypts meter readings using AES-128 -Transmission: SM transmits encrypted data to HES Encrypted Data Format: ______________________________________ |Meter ID | Timestamp |Consumption| |(Encrypted) | (Encrypted) | (Encrypted) | ______________________________________ |Power Factor| Checksum | Encryption | |(Encrypted) |(Encrypted) | Key ID | ______________________________________ (Checksum: Value assigned to a file & sent with file to verify that data contained in that file is unchanged) Decryption Process: -Receipt: HES receives encrypted data -Decryption: HES decrypts data using AES-128 -Verification: HES verifies checksum -Processing: HES processes meter reading Link for Part 1 (https://lnkd.in/d-BAdmvZ) Link for Part 3 (https://lnkd.in/dJhzDZF9)
