🌶️ HOT TAKE ALERT 🌶️ (Even though no one asked for it) If you are an Executive building a personal brand is SIMPLE. You innately have a higher level of authority and perceived expertise than others who are working to make their mark. So for the LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD, USE IT! Simple =/= Easy, but it does mean the steps aren't that complicated, you just have to show up and do the work to see the results. Here are the steps you need to execute: 👨🏻🏫 Decide what topic you want to be known for or what "subject" you would be teaching if you were a teacher for your audience. 📆 SHOW UP CONSISTENTLY. This doesn't have to be every day but you need to stay consistent to see results- think working out. If you do it once every 3.5 weeks it won't do much for you. 💬 Engage and show your personality. Build a community and the right customers and partners will find their way to you. Thought Leadership through a personal brand shapes industry dialog and creates demand. If you told me I'd have to move my family 4 times last year, I'd have done one or all of the following: 👉 Laugh in your face (politely, of course, coz I'm a gent) 👉 Choke on my coffee (not going to waste it by spitting it out – I make an amazing mug of coffee!) 👉 Collapse onto the nearest seat (coz floors are hard, and I my head is tender) 👉 Cry, and with fists held high, ask "Why? Whyyyyyy?!" (coz I can be a tad dramatic... or so my gorgeous wife tells me) Well... skip to this, the 2nd day of a Brand New Year, and here I am, at home in my new office/studio (I may re-jig it. Just trying out different configurations). ❤️ How long will we be here? Time will tell. 🤷♂️ But while we 𝙖𝙧𝙚 here, I'm committed to continuing to help people create content that generates joy among their audiences (as well as leads and actual sales, if that's what they're aiming for). Storytime Folks - Fabian will love this one This morning at breakfast, I witnessed a fascinating example of how the principle of scarcity can influence our decisions – a lesson incredibly valuable and worth sharing. I cut an apple into slices and offered them to my children. No one was interested. Even when only one piece remained, their reaction was the same. However, when I changed my tactic and emphasized it was the “last chance” to get a slice of the apple because I would eat the last piece otherwise, suddenly, little hands were flying towards me as if their lives depended on it. What does this simple everyday story teach us about marketing and sales? The principle of scarcity is a powerful tool. It's based on the idea that things perceived as rare or about to disappear seem more desirable. In the world of marketing and sales, we can leverage this insight to increase interest and urgency among our target audiences. By positioning our offers as limited or exclusive, we can provoke a stronger reaction and encourage our customers to act more quickly. This approach can be particularly effective in boosting engagement in online campaigns and ultimately driving sales. It serves as a reminder that how we present our products and services is just as important as the offers themselves. The OTAs mastered this game and you can too. This amusing moment taught me a crucial lesson... not everything is as it appears. I visited a charming nursery. Lush plants. Serene koi ponds. Beautiful outdoor furniture. I was looking for a turtle decoration. Something to add a touch of whimsy to my garden. Then, I saw it. A turtle by the pond's edge. It looked so lifelike. Determined to make it mine, I picked it up, only to realize it was a real turtle. Its legs started wriggling! Haha! It was a real turtle. Just like I mistook a real turtle for a decoration, people often mistake appearances for authenticity on LinkedIn. Here's the truth: 90% of LinkedIn users focus on surface-level engagement. They post content that looks good but lacks depth. Their profiles seem polished but don’t reflect their true selves. People sense when you’re not genuine; it ruins your reputation. Generic, templated comments? They're ruining your reputation. Authenticity builds trust and fosters deeper connections. Don’t just show surface-level qualities. Highlight skills, experiences, values. These elements are the real YOU—like the real turtle beneath. Relatable Engagement My reaction to the moving turtle was laughter and surprise. Engage with your audience in a relatable way. Share your stories, laughs, and even mistakes. Be human. The story of the real turtle is one I’ll never forget. Aim to create memorable experiences for your audience. Unique content.
