Celebrate LGBT+ History Month with inclusive classrooms all year round! As we enter LGBT+ History Month, it's the perfect time to reflect on how we can foster true belonging for all students in our schools. While dedicated lessons and displays are valuable, sustainable inclusion requires cross-curricular integration throughout the year. This insightful article by Mel Lane in Schools Week offers two little approaches that can have a big impact: drop-ins, and visibility. 🔗https://lnkd.in/eT-fvR4Q

As we come to the end of LGBTQ+ History Month, it is important to reflect on the significant strides made towards inclusivity and understanding within the education sector. It is 21 years since the controversial and homophobic legislation known as Section 28, introduced under Margaret Thatcher, was repealed in England and Wales. The withdrawal of Section 28 marked a critical turning point, allowing educators to foster an environment of openness, respect, and understanding. It empowered our academies to address LGBTQ+ topics, ensuring that all students feel seen, respected, and included, irrespective of their background or identity. At Leigh Academies Trust, we are committed to building upon this progress. Our mission to deliver "education for a better world" encompasses creating a culture where every member of our community feels valued and supported. The repeal of Section 28 has enabled us to integrate LGBTQ+ education into our curriculum, encouraging empathy, equality, and respect among our students. #LGBTQHistoryMonth #InclusivityInEducation #LeighAcademiesTrust #EducationForABetterWorld

Education is an ongoing necessity for leaders to effectively manage diverse and skilled teams, particularly in areas such as diversity and inclusion. It is through this education that we can develop empathy and foster a culture that embraces diversity. As we reflect on Pride Month, a global celebration of LGBTQ+ rights, I am reminded of the progress made by this community over the years. However, I also recognize that there is still much work to be done in our society to create a safe and inclusive environment for this community. The shockingly low life expectancy for transgender women in Latin America, which stands at only 35 years, is particularly distressing. It serves as a stark reminder that despite the progress we have made, there is an urgent need for the development of safe environments. I am committed to fostering education and awareness, not only within the workplace but also in my personal life with family and friends because this cause extends beyond the corporate realm. These efforts are essential in creating equal and safe opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community, and it is our responsibility to contribute to building a more inclusive society where everyone feels valued and respected. https://lnkd.in/dgabrwpV
