#AUSTRALIA is one of the most important nations on Earth for #biodiversity. One of only 17 mega-divers Nations, most of Australia’s #wildlife is found nowhere else in the world, making its conservation even more critical to #protect and #sustain. Indigenous Australians attribute tremendous knowledge, spiritual, cultural & symbolic #value to our plants and animals, as well as to the broader environment. Many species are spiritually or culturally important, including as totems, sources of food or medicine, materials for tools or implements, & indicators of health of #Country. Culturally significant species feature prominently in Indigenous knowledge, including language, ceremonies, stories, lore, identity and #narratives. More than 1,900 Australian species and ecological #communities are known to be threatened or at risk of extinction. The two pressures that have caused the most #extinction of Australian terrestrial species since the beginning of colonisation are introduced species (causing the loss of 64 species) & habitat loss and clearing (62 species). Over the past two centuries, Australia has lost more #mammal species than any other continent & continues to have one of the highest rates of #speciesdecline among countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development. For some species, it is too late, with more than 100 Australian species listed as Extinct or Extinct in the Wild under Australian national, state or territory #legislation. The true number of extinctions is likely to be significantly higher, since many #species are poorly surveyed or poorly described, or both. The #koala (combined populations of Qld, NSW & the ACT) was listed as endangered on 12 February 2022. Ref: Australia State of The Environment Report 2021 (published every three years). Surrounded by the lush greenery of Sri Lanka's wet zone, Suduwelipotha is home to the #CinnamonRainforestRestoration Project.    With a focus on restoring 59 acres of forest land, we aim to enrich native biodiversity and create vital wildlife habitats for endangered species.   As we commemorate our milestone anniversary, this project serves as a testament to the incredible impact of teamwork in conservation efforts while we grow a future.   Here are a few highlights:   - Completed Habitat Restoration Goal: 20,000 native trees planted as of January 2024.   - Updated Habitat Restoration Goal: 25,000 native trees to be planted by the end of 2024.   - Goal Impact: Estimated 600,000 kg carbon absorbed annually and 12 Million litres of oxygen produced per hour by 2045.

New Jersey is one of the highest population density in the country. A major threat to biodiversity is the resulting of loss and fragmentation of habitats. The state is losing open space in the last 2 decades at about 15,000 acres every year. With 41% of our land currently developed and a 11.4% risk of species extinction from plants & wildlife, New Jersey is in need of a better action plan to save our environment. Biodiversity is critically important to human health, economies and our livelihoods. Globally, humans have endangered around 80% of the threatened or near-threatened species.
